Should I rent a car at the Heraklion Airport in Crete or will I find better deals elsewhere? I've heard that sometimes hotels can arrange good deals if I can wait. Also, do I need an international driver's license? I recall someone saying that I do.... They're fairly easy to get, right?

If you are going there peak season you should book the car before you go. Check the car companies on the internet . Prices and quality of cars will vary, most will meet you at the airport. Rental companies at the airport will be the most expensive. Don't be afraid to rent from smaller none international companies as long as you check their customer reviews on the net.
Depending on where your current drivers license is from you may not need need an international permit.

It is very good advice to book the car before you go, especially if you know you want it, and especially if it is peak season. I have gotten cars at the last minute in Greece, but only because I had decided at the last minute I needed one, and somehow the hotel I was at arranged it. When I tried to use a major rental car chain, all their cars were booked up.

Thank you, all! I will look into my options. It's a good point, not to wait to rent if I know I need one... I'll need to think about it.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I’ve found that airport rentals in Heraklion are usually super convenient and the prices are often similar to what hotels offer. Some smaller local companies near the airport can be even cheaper if you book ahead. About the license, I’ve seen many travelers drive with just their home license, but I’m curious if anyone here has been asked for an international one recently.

Airport rentals in Heraklion tend to be the easiest, but hotels sometimes give nice discounts if they’re trying to fill cars, so I usually compare both a few days before the trip. For driving, I’ve used an international driving license on Crete, and it made pickups smoother since rental desks didn’t ask extra questions. Getting it was quick and saved me from stressing about local rules.

Places to go for the first time in Greece?

A friend of mine is planning her first trip to Greece, and she asked me what she should prioritize for about 10 days. I’ve been lucky enough to go quite a few times, so I gave her a starting point: Athens for the history, Santorini for the views, and Mykonos for the energy and beaches.

She loved that outline, but she wants to add one more destination to round out the trip. That’s where I started second guessing myself a bit, because there are so many good options depending on what kind of experience she wants.

I was thinking maybe somewhere a little different to balance things out, but I’m curious what others would suggest. If you had 10 days and those three spots already planned, what would be your fourth destination for a first-time visitor?

Visiting Multiple Greek Islands Advice Needed

I’m starting to plan a longer trip to Greece and would love some advice from people who’ve done multi-island itineraries. The idea is an island-focused trip of about three weeks, moving at a comfortable pace rather than rushing through places. One non-negotiable, if everything comes together, is spending around four nights in Mykonos.

Beyond that, I’m open and trying to be smart about logistics. I’d love to combine Mykonos with islands that make sense geographically and rhythm-wise, so the trip feels cohesive rather than exhausting. I’m interested in a mix of beautiful beaches, villages, good food, and a slightly slower pace to balance out the energy of Mykonos.

For those who’ve done longer island trips, how many islands felt like the right number for three weeks? Are there certain island groupings that work especially well with Mykonos? Any lessons learned about ferry routes, pacing, or what you’d do differently next time would be hugely appreciated.

Festivals of Note for 2026 in Greece?

My family and I are starting to think about a possible trip to Greece in 2026, and this time we’re considering planning part of the trip around a festival or cultural celebration. We’ve been to Greece before, but we’ve never really organized a trip around a specific event.

I know Greece has so many interesting traditions throughout the year. Because of that, I’m starting to gather ideas early while we figure out where we might want to go.

Have any of you traveled to Greece specifically to experience a festival? If so, which ones would you recommend? It could be religious celebrations, food festivals, music events, or local village festivals.
I’d love to hear about any memorable festival experiences that might help us shape our 2026 plans.

Why do some score tracking platforms show delayed match updates?

Been tearing my hair out lately trying to follow live matches because some score‑tracking apps update super fast while others lag like they’re stuck in another century. I’m talking minutes behind, not seconds. It’s driving me nuts, especially when I’m juggling fantasy leagues and friendly bets with my buddies. I keep switching between apps hoping one will magically work better, but no luck so far. Is this just bad servers, licensing stuff, or am I using the wrong platforms altogether? If anyone knows what actually causes these delays—or has app recommendations—I’m all ears.

When do you like to visit Greece?

I’ve been to Greece many times over the years, and while every season has its own kind of magic, I’ve fallen in love with the fall. The sea is still warm, the light turns golden, and the crowds have thinned just enough to make everything feel calm and intimate. There’s something about late September and October, that mix of relaxed locals, mild weather, and perfect taverna evenings, that keeps pulling me back.

But I’m curious what other travelers think. Do you prefer the high energy of summer, when beaches are buzzing and festivals are in full swing? Or do you love the quiet, authentic feel of winter, when villages slow down and locals have time to chat?

Spring also seems beautiful, with everything blooming and Easter celebrations filling the air.

What’s your favorite season to experience Greece, and why?
