Santorini All Set for Summer?

I’ve been thinking about a summer trip to Santorini, but I’ve heard about the earthquake activity on the island. From what I’ve read, it seems like the situation is under control now, and things are stable—but I wanted to check in with folks who are either there or more in the loop.

Has anyone been to Santorini recently or heard any updates from locals or travel experts? Are businesses open and preparing for the usual summer rush? I know the island depends heavily on tourism, so I imagine they’re working hard to get everything ready.
 
Hey! I’ve been keeping an eye on the news too, and from everything I’ve read, things in Santorini seem stable at the moment. The earlier seismic activity raised some concerns, but it looks like local authorities responded quickly and have everything under control. There haven’t been any major updates recently, which usually means things are calm

I can't tell you what you should do but people I know who have been planing to go to Santorini plan to go ahead with it since things seem stable.

Dealing with Santorini crowds during peak season?

I’m considering a trip to Santorini this summer for about 3–4 days, but I know how intense the crowds can get during peak season. I haven’t fully decided yet, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been recently.

I’m curious about how to make the most of the experience even with the busy atmosphere. I’d especially appreciate tips on seeing the caldera views and exploring Oia without feeling completely overwhelmed. If there are any quieter beaches, villages, or scenic spots that still offer that iconic Santorini charm, I’d love to hear about them.

Dining and sunset-watching are high on my list, so I’m also interested in recommendations for places that aren’t overly packed with tourists. And I’m wondering what the easiest way to get around is, whether it’s doable without a car or if something like an ATV is worth it.

How many days in enough is Santorini?

I’ve been to Santorini before and absolutely loved it—but this time, I’m going back with friends who have never been. We’re planning a bit of an island-hopping trip, and I’m trying to figure out how many days we should dedicate to Santorini without feeling rushed, but also leaving time for other islands.

I remember there’s a lot to enjoy even just soaking in the views, but I also don’t want them to miss out on the key experiences—Oia sunsets, the hike from Fira to Oia, maybe a winery, and some beach time. We’re not big into overly scheduled days, more go-with-the-flow types.

What would you recommend for first-timers? Is 2 full days enough to get the full experience, or is 3–4 ideal? Would love to hear how long others stayed and whether you felt it was just right or too short!

How was the airport experience in Santorini?

I’ve been to Santorini a few times, but I’ve always arrived and departed by ferry, never by plane. For my next trip, I’m thinking about flying in or out, depending on how the itinerary shapes up, and I’d love to hear from those of you who’ve actually used the Santorini airport.

How was your experience? Is it as chaotic as some reviews make it sound, or does it just depend on the time of year? I’m curious about everything, check-in lines, baggage claim, the size of the terminal, transportation to and from hotels, even how early you’d recommend arriving before a flight.

I’d also love to know if there’s a big difference between domestic and international departures. Is it worth paying extra for a direct flight, or are the Athens connections smooth enough? Any first-hand details would really help me plan ahead for next year’s trip.

Is Akrotiri worth visiting?

I’m heading to Santorini soon, and I keep seeing mixed opinions about Akrotiri. Some travelers say it’s one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in Greece, a “Minoan Pompeii” with incredibly well-preserved houses, fresco fragments, and that haunting feeling of a city frozen in time. Others say it’s too restored, too curated, or too quick of a visit to justify the entrance fee.

For those of you who’ve been: is Akrotiri actually worth visiting, or is it more for serious history lovers? Did the site feel immersive, or does the roofed structure make it harder to picture the ancient city? How much time did you spend there, and is it better with a guide?

I’m trying to decide whether to fit Akrotiri into a tight itinerary. I’d love to hear your impressions, was it memorable, educational, emotional, or just “fine”? Any tips for making the visit more meaningful?

Which Santorini villages still feel quiet and traditional now?

I’m thinking of visiting Santorini next year, but I keep hearing that the island has changed a lot — especially with how crowded Oia and Fira have become. I love the idea of seeing the caldera views, but I’m also hoping to experience the quieter, more traditional side of the island.

Are there still villages that feel peaceful and authentic, where you can wander through narrow streets, talk to locals, and maybe enjoy a meal at a family-run taverna without the crowds?

I’ve heard names like Megalochori, Pyrgos, and Emporio mentioned, but it’s hard to tell from online photos which places still hold onto that “old Santorini” charm. What do you think?
