I am really excited about my trip to Santorini and wanted to do something different. Was thinking of a boat tour! However, with so many options available, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and would love to hear from those who have experienced boat tours in Santorini before.

I'm particularly interested in hearing about your recommendations for boat tour companies or specific tours that stood out to you. Whether it's a catamaran cruise, a traditional Greek wooden boat excursion, or a luxury yacht experience, I'm open to all suggestions!

What were the highlights of your boat tour? Did you visit iconic landmarks like the volcanic hot springs, the famous Red Beach, or the picturesque island of Thirassia? How was the overall experience in terms of service, safety, and value for money?

Also, any tips or advice on booking the tour, such as the best time of day to go, whether morning, afternoon, or sunset, would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure I choose the right tour that fits my preferences and budget.

I have never done a boat tour here but I've been to Santorini several times. I have heard good things about taking a boat to the opening of the volcano, which has warm waters. You can get out and swim around - the water is healing and warm! I have always wanted to try that. During my time in Santorini, I just never got around to it.

I have done day trip to Nea Kameni island, had a swim at the hot springs and walked up to the volcano. This was in summer during the day. The swim was fine, the water very hot on the top and close to shore, not as hot away from shore and under water. The walk up to the active volcano was hard going at 30+ degrees C ( 86+ F if you are American). We took a boat to Theresia as well, day trip again, the restaurants on the waterfront were fantastic. Another one I recommend, take an evening cruise to watch the sunset .

Embarking on a boat tour in Santorini is an unforgettable experience that has provided me with a deep understanding of this topic.

During my week-long stay, I was captivated by the sheer beauty of the place. The journey begins with the most captivating views one can imagine. As the boat leaves the port, one is greeted with the breathtaking sight of Santorini's iconic whitewashed villages, dramatically perched atop cliffs that descend into the deep blue waters of the Aegean Sea. A significant highlight for many who embark on these tours is the opportunity to cruise around the caldera. This submerged volcanic crater, which gives Santorini its distinctive crescent shape, presents a spectacle like no other.

The experience of seeing the sheer cliffs emerge straight from the sea, along with the layers of volcanic rock, is simply awe-inspiring. Some tours make a stop at the volcanic hot springs near Palaia Kameni, where individuals can indulge in a dip in the warm waters. These springs are renowned for their mineral-rich waters, believed to have therapeutic properties. Further into the journey, the tour introduces individuals to secluded beaches and sea caves, unreachable by any land route. These spots are pristine and offer exceptional opportunities for swimming, snorkelling, and simply basking in the sun.

However, it's the sunset boat tours that are arguably the most sought-after. They offer a chance to see the island in a golden glow as the sun sets. The view of the sunset, with its hues of orange and pink spreading over the caldera, is not just magical but creates memories that last a lifetime. My collection of photos from Santorini and these sunset cruises are among my most treasured.

Taking a boat tour of Santorini sounds like a dream! The island is stunning from the water, and you get those incredible views of the cliffs and the colorful houses. Plus, you can explore some of those hidden spots that aren’t accessible by land. I’ve heard the sunset tours are especially magical. Imagine relaxing on the boat with a glass of wine and soaking in the views. It sounds pretty perfect. Enjoy the trip, and make sure to take lots of pictures!

Best Beaches in Santorini for Kids?

We’re planning a big family trip for early autumn and Santorini is one of the top contenders. We’ll have a mix of adults and kids in our group, mostly ages 4 to 10, and I’m trying to get a sense of how family-friendly the beaches are.

Are there any beaches on Santorini that are safe, sandy, and good for swimming with younger children? Shade would be a huge plus, or at least nearby tavernas where we can take breaks. We’re also wondering about beach access, are there spots that are easier to reach with kids and beach gear (less rocky or steep)?

We’re not expecting huge playgrounds or anything, just something relaxing and low-key where kids can enjoy the water and we don’t have to stress too much.

Santorini All Set for Summer?

I’ve been thinking about a summer trip to Santorini, but I’ve heard about the earthquake activity on the island. From what I’ve read, it seems like the situation is under control now, and things are stable—but I wanted to check in with folks who are either there or more in the loop.

Has anyone been to Santorini recently or heard any updates from locals or travel experts? Are businesses open and preparing for the usual summer rush? I know the island depends heavily on tourism, so I imagine they’re working hard to get everything ready.

Is Akrotiri worth visiting?

I’m heading to Santorini soon, and I keep seeing mixed opinions about Akrotiri. Some travelers say it’s one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in Greece, a “Minoan Pompeii” with incredibly well-preserved houses, fresco fragments, and that haunting feeling of a city frozen in time. Others say it’s too restored, too curated, or too quick of a visit to justify the entrance fee.

For those of you who’ve been: is Akrotiri actually worth visiting, or is it more for serious history lovers? Did the site feel immersive, or does the roofed structure make it harder to picture the ancient city? How much time did you spend there, and is it better with a guide?

I’m trying to decide whether to fit Akrotiri into a tight itinerary. I’d love to hear your impressions, was it memorable, educational, emotional, or just “fine”? Any tips for making the visit more meaningful?

Which Santorini villages still feel quiet and traditional now?

I’m thinking of visiting Santorini next year, but I keep hearing that the island has changed a lot — especially with how crowded Oia and Fira have become. I love the idea of seeing the caldera views, but I’m also hoping to experience the quieter, more traditional side of the island.

Are there still villages that feel peaceful and authentic, where you can wander through narrow streets, talk to locals, and maybe enjoy a meal at a family-run taverna without the crowds?

I’ve heard names like Megalochori, Pyrgos, and Emporio mentioned, but it’s hard to tell from online photos which places still hold onto that “old Santorini” charm. What do you think?

Guy's Night Out in Santorini?

A few of us are planning a guys’ trip to Greece next summer (still tentative, but Santorini is definitely on the list), and we’re trying to figure out what a proper guys’ night out would look like there. One of the guys will be celebrating a birthday, so we’d like to make it special without going too over the top.

We’re not looking for the super touristy spots packed with honeymooners—more interested in something authentic, fun, and memorable. Maybe a taverna with great food and live music, or a bar where locals actually hang out? A good view wouldn’t hurt either.

Has anyone here done a birthday or a group night out in Santorini with a bunch of guys? Is Fira better for nightlife than Oia? Any recommendations for tavernas, bars, or even local experiences we could include in the evening would be really appreciated.
