The best place to go scuba diving in Santorini

Santorini is one of the best places to go scuba diving because the island was created from a volcano many years ago which makes the sea life very different from other areas of Greece. There are very unique Coral reef Sandrock formations that have come from the volcano, and as always, the sea is teeming with wildlife. I highly recommend visiting Caldera Lagoon and arranging that you go scuba diving there. There are a few local schools that you should call ahead of time to schedule your slot. Best of luck!

How safe is it? Since the caldera is so deep (even cruise ships can't drop anchor because the water is so deep) does it pose issues for divers?

Santorini for an Anniversary Trip

A friend of mine is thinking about going to Santorini for an anniversary trip, and she asked me for suggestions. I’ve been to Santorini quite a few times over the years, but almost always as part of family trips, so my experiences there have been a little different from what she’s looking for.

She’s only been to the island once before and really loved it, so she wants to go back and make it a special anniversary trip with her husband. The problem is that I’m realizing most of my recommendations are things families tend to do, and I’m not as sure what the best ideas would be for a more romantic visit.

For those of you who have gone to Santorini as a couple, what did you enjoy most? Are there particular villages, hotels, restaurants, or experiences that felt especially romantic? I’d love to pass along some good ideas to her.

Avoiding Santorini Crowds?

I’m starting to think about a trip to Santorini this year. It’s been a while since I’ve been, and I’d really like to go back, but I keep hearing how crowded it’s gotten.

I’m not expecting it to be empty or anything, but I’d love to time it so I can still enjoy the views, walk around without feeling packed in, and actually get into restaurants without a huge wait.

For those of you who have been recently, when do you think is the best time to go? I’m trying to balance decent weather (warm enough for walking, maybe even the beach) with fewer crowds. Is late spring a good window? Or is early fall better?

Wine Tasing Tips in Santorini

I’m Greek, but I’ve never actually done a proper wine-tasting tour in Santorini. I might finally go next year, and I want to make the most of it. I’ve always heard that the volcanic soil gives Santorini wines a special character, especially the Assyrtiko—and I’m very curious to try the famous Vinsanto in the place where it’s made.

For those of you who have been, do you have any tips? Are there wineries that really stand out for their atmosphere, history, or even just amazing caldera views? Do most tastings require reservations, or can you drop in?

I’d also love to know if there are lesser-known varietals besides Assyrtiko that I should look out for. And when it comes to exploring, do you recommend booking a guided wine tour with transport included, or is it simple enough to visit wineries on your own?

Considering Pyrgos in Santorini to Stay?

I’m considering spending some time in Pyrgos during my next trip to Santorini, and I’d love to hear from people who have visited. I’ve been looking for places that feel a little different from the busier parts of the island, and Pyrgos looks like it could be a great place to explore for a few hours.

For those who have been, what did you enjoy most about Pyrgos? Are there particular streets, churches, viewpoints, shops, or places to eat that you would recommend? I’m especially interested in wandering around, taking photos, enjoying the views, and getting a feel for the village rather than rushing through a list of attractions.

How much time would you suggest spending there? Is half a day enough, or would you stay longer? I’d also love to know whether you think Pyrgos is best visited during the day or closer to sunset.

Favorite shops to buy jewelry in Santorini?

I’m thinking about going back to Santorini next year — I’ve been a few times before and absolutely love the island. This time, though, I want to do something a little different and focus more on shopping, especially for jewelry. I’m looking for cute, unique pieces — either handmade, local designs or anything with a Greek flair that doesn’t feel too mass-produced.

Any favorite shops or designers you’ve come across in Fira, Oia, or even the smaller villages? I’d love to hear where you found your favorite pieces? I want unique things. Like, a friend brought me back a bracelet that was made from beads cut from the Santorini lava stone, but funny enough, she bumped into this piece on Crete. So I thought, I should go to Santorini to get cool stuff like this! Do you have any favorite places to buy jewelry?
