Did you know that the white tower of Thessaloniki (lefkos pyrgos) was not the original tower that was there in the first place? During the siege of Thessaloniki in 1185, the tower was destroyed and then rebuilt. The new tower (the one that we see today) was constructed by the Ottoman Empire by an architect who constructed a similar tower in Valona, Albania.

I didn't know that! That's interesting. You have to figure that these older structures have probably been through a lot, whether it was simply the passage of time or maybe even destroyed through invasion, natural disaster, etc.

First Time to Thessaloniki

Whenever I go to Greece, it is always to Athens. This time, I was thinking of heading to Thessaloniki. It would be my first time!

Does anyone have an advice for those visiting the city for the first time? I don't quite know where to start. Is there a particular neighborhood I should stay in, for starters? I would like to get an AirBnB or something like that.

What are the best day trips from Thessaloniki?

I’ve been wanting to visit Thessaloniki for a while now, but of course I can’t visit a city without hitting the beach right after! Are there any good day trips from the island that people recommend?

First Time in Thessaloniki - What to Do?

I have been to Athens plenty of times but never Thessaloniki. I am trying to nail down an itinerary for the next time I am in Greece. I have never been to Thessaloniki! What is a good list of things to see and do while I am here? I started my research:

** Ladadika District - Because it seems kinda neat....
** Archaeological Museum - I love this kind of thing!
** White Tower - seems like an iconic landmark?

These are the top three beaches in Thessaloniki

If you ask me, I personally don't love going to the beach near the city. I find that the beaches aren't the best, but if you're touring the city and interested in going for a quick swim, these are your best options. The video does a great job of showing exactly what the beaches are like! Websites will show you photoshopped pictures that are edited to show the clearest waters and cleanest beaches. That's why I like to go to YouTube to see the reality of what I'm signing up for.

Beware of the roads in Kavala, Greece!

Kavala is a small and beautiful city near Thessaloniki which has some of the windiest and steepest roads. If youre not used to driving in Greece, especially with a manual car I highly recommend that you don't drive yourself. The roads are not for amateurs and it is a much better idea to walk around the city or use taxis. Good luck for anyone visiting! It is one of my favorite cities in the North. Let me know if you would like recommendations! :)
