I love Santorini and this is my 4th time visiting the island. My advice is rent a car. Even with driving being tough with the thousands of tourists packed everywhere on mopeds, motorcycles, tiny cars, it is so much better than trying to find a taxi.

Today, I spend 3 hours to get a taxi to take me 4 miles...just too hot and dangerous to walk.

I had to go store to store ans ask after I finallu wapked into a supermarket, the owner called his friend that owns a transfer service, pay cash to get a ride. No uber, taxis or any app or service anywhere.

Please share your tips if you have any, about how to find a taxi in Santorini?

Wow this sounds very stressful, I only went to Santorini a few years back and we used buses or a taxi but it wasn't so difficult. I wish I had better advice for you... my apologies

There are enough taxis in Santorini. The way they work are just different from the way you are used to. They are not driving around to look for a ride or stand idily on a taxi stand. You call and book them just like you did. No fancy stuff with apps and credit cards. Just pick up a telephone, call and pay cash.

This is how it works in most places in Greece besides Athens. Ive never been to Santorini though. Where do I find the phone numbers of these taxi drivers?

That's sad to hear! I've been avoiding renting a car this summer because the prices are so dang high! Looks like ill be hunting for taxis during my trip to Santorini :(

It's true - taxis are hard to come by sometimes. There are restrictions as to how man taxis Santorini has, and I think this might be an eco requirement. I am not sure. One of the taxi drivers was saying you need to book taxis in demand. Not only is demand high during peak season, but the amount of taxis allowed on the island is fairly low.

Is there anyplace out of the way in Santorini?

Santorini is inundated with tourists but I am wondering if there is anywhere on the island that may not be as busy but is still nice to visit. Or, that is maybe close to the busy areas but not too close. I love Santorini, and my family has never been. I want them to see it, but I don't want it to be stressful.

I am wondering if I should just forget it. I have heard stories about how expensive and busy it is in the summers.

You should try the food while in Santorini!

I recently spent some time in Santorini and my one takeaway is that the food there is fantastic, especially the tomatoes. But everything is delicious.

I have been trying to replicate a dish - "domatakeftedes" - since I enjoyed them on the island I've been wanting to make them. Does anyone know what to do?

I think the ingredients are something like this:

- Ripe tomatoes (maybe grated)
- Feta cheese - crumbled
- Chopped Fresh Herbs - parsley, mint, maybe oregano?
- Flour or bread crumbs
- Egg? (recipes I have found online - some say to use egg some leave it out)
- Oil for frying

What do you guys think?

Yes, Santorini is as beautiful as they say

Today was my first day in Santorini and I must say I was astounded. I was worried that there was a lot of hype around the island, and that it might not be as nice as they say but I was wrong. It’s absolutely stunning. I believe that everyone should try and go in their lifetime.

Did you know that Santorini has an industrial tomato museum?

Santorini had a huge production of tomatoes, which was so big that they even have an industrial tomato museum that is open to the public. Santorini no longer exports as much tomato paste as it used to, I'm assuming because it became one of the most popular tourist hot spots in the entire world. The museum is located in the former D. Nomikos Tomato Factory, and I really suggest that you check it out!! Safe travels :)

The best restaurants in Santorini

Santorini has some of the best Greek cuisine! Ever since the tourism industry has been booming, chefs from all over the world have been visiting, opening up restaurants, and collaborating with Greek shifts. In my opinion, this is the island where you can get the most diverse and elevated cuisine. These are the best restaurants in my opinion, but please let me know your top pics. I would love to know.

- Ouzeri
-Almira
-Ambrosia
-FalafeLand (vegan)

These are just a handful that I can remember off the top of my head!
