I'm planning a trip to Corfu and I'm looking for some insider tips on off-the-beaten-track experiences. While I'm excited about the popular spots, I'd love to explore some hidden gems that aren't swamped with tourists.

Does anyone have recommendations for:

  • Secluded beaches
  • Hidden historical sites
  • Local eateries that offer authentic Corfiot cuisine
  • Scenic hiking trails
  • Any unique cultural experiences or local festivals

For a unique Corfu experience, visit the quaint village of Old Perithia, a well-preserved heritage site nestled in the mountains. Hike to Cape Drastis for breathtaking views and secluded coves. Explore the lesser-known beaches like Rovinia and Mirtiotissa for tranquility and natural beauty.

Also the Corfu Donkey Rescue is worth a visit. You can also seek out family-run tavernas in villages like Pelekas and Kassiopi. These hidden gems will give you a true taste of Corfu away from the crowds. These are great places with wonderful food and atmosphere - very traditional food, too. Many tavernas have limited menus because they seek out ultra fresh food that is always delicious.

Learning About British Influence on Corfu

I'm planning a trip to Corfu and I'm particularly interested in learning about the British influence on the island. I've read that the British left a significant mark on Corfu during their rule in the 19th century, and I'd love to explore this aspect of the island's history.

Can anyone recommend specific historical sites, museums, or landmarks that highlight the British presence in Corfu? Are there particular buildings or areas in Corfu Town that showcase British architecture or influence?

I'm also interested in any guided tours or local experts who specialize in this topic. Additionally, any tips on literature or resources that provide a deeper understanding of this period in Corfu's history would be greatly appreciated.

Paleokastritsa, summer 2025

Hi everyone

I have just joined this site to see if I can get some Corfu travel tips or maybe even meet some other people heading to Corfu next summer.
I am 53, from Derby, England, and I've decided to have a month's RnR in Paleokastritsa.
I'd be really keen to hear from anyone with any tips or insight into the area, life in Corfu, how I might be able to meet people and things to see and do. I'm thinking of hiring a moped to get around, do lots of reading, relaxing, hiking, eating and (a bit of) drinking! Most of all, reflecting and enjoying the environment - and the sunshine! I need to take some time to indulge in this.

What is Paleokastritsa like? From all of my research, it seems to be a good mix of quiet and lively (ie. not party town but also not completely dead). Are there restuarants there which aren't too expensive? Are there any good, chill out bars which stay open late? Also, are there ways to meet other travellers out there or is there anyone on here heading to Corfu next summer who'd be interested in connecting beforehand? It'd be really cool to build a little online community, if there was anyone in a similar position, even if they're going to a different part of the island.

Anyway, that's why I joined this site - to meet any others but also to find out about Corfu and paleokasistra. I'd love to hear from any of you!

Public Transport Options in Corfu?

I’m planning a trip to Corfu soon and I’m hoping to rely mostly on public transportation to get around the island. I’ve read that the bus system is fairly extensive, but I’m a bit unsure about how easy it is to navigate, especially when visiting more remote areas or smaller villages.

Can anyone share tips on how to effectively use public buses in Corfu? Are there specific apps or websites that are particularly helpful for checking schedules and routes? Also, any advice on how reliable the service is, particularly during peak tourist season?

Also, if there are any other forms of public transport worth considering, I’d love to hear about those as well. I want to avoid renting a car if possible, so any insights on getting around the island efficiently that would help me.

Visiting the Castles on Corfu

I’m planning a trip to Corfu and am particularly excited about exploring the island’s castles and fortresses. I’ve heard there are some incredible historical sites like the Old Fortress and the New Fortress in Corfu Town, but I’d love to hear more about them and any other castles that are worth visiting.

Does anyone have recommendations on the best way to explore these sites? Are there guided tours that provide a lot of historical context, or is it better to explore on your own? I’m also curious about any hidden spots or lesser-known castles around the island that I shouldn’t miss. Thank you!

Top Archaeological Sites in Corfu?

I know Corfu has a unique blend of influences, from the ancient Greeks and Romans to the Venetians, and I’d love to visit some great places.

Could anyone recommend the must-see archaeological sites or historical locations in Corfu? I’ve heard a bit about the Old Fortress in Corfu Town and the Temple of Artemis, but I’m sure there are other gems that shouldn’t be missed. Also, are there any smaller, lesser-known sites off the beaten path that are worth visiting for someone who loves history? Thanks so much!
