I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia soon and will be staying in Argostoli for a few days. I’d love to get some tips on the best things to do while I’m there! I’m interested in exploring local culture, history, and nature, and I’ve heard Argostoli has a lot to offer.

I’m especially curious about any must-see sights or hidden gems around the area. I’ve heard about the Koutavos Lagoon and the De Bosset Bridge – are they worth visiting? Also, are there any great local restaurants or cafes you’d recommend for trying authentic Kefalonian food?

I love wandering around towns and soaking up the atmosphere, so if you know of any cool spots, viewpoints, or markets that are worth checking out, I’d appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks in advance for your tips and advice – I’m really looking forward to exploring Argostoli!

Argostoli is a fantastic base for exploring Kefalonia! You’re right—there’s a lot to see and experience, and it’s perfect for soaking up local culture and history. The Koutavos Lagoon and De Bosset Bridge are definitely worth visiting; the bridge offers a beautiful walk with views of the lagoon and town. It’s also a great spot for spotting turtles if you’re lucky!

While in town, explore Lithostroto Street, a pedestrian area filled with shops, cafes, and local vibes. The Archaeological Museum of Argostoli is small but offers insight into the island’s ancient history. For a taste of authentic Kefalonian food, I’d recommend dining at Oinops and Ladokolla—both serve delicious, local dishes.

If you love viewpoints, head up to the Fanari Lighthouse for stunning sea views, especially at sunset.

Traditional Dishes to Try in Kefalonia?

Hi everyone! I'm heading to Kefalonia soon and super excited to explore the island’s food scene. I’ve heard there are some amazing local dishes unique to Kefalonia, and I want to make sure I don’t miss out on the most traditional ones.

So far, I’ve seen people mention kreatopita (meat pie), and I’m curious about other authentic things to try — whether it’s main dishes, desserts, or street food. I love trying regional specialties when I travel and would rather eat what the locals eat than stick to touristy menus.

Are there any specific dishes that are only found on Kefalonia? Any tavernas or bakeries that serve amazing local food? I'd also love tips on what to pair with a glass of Robola wine!

Thanks so much — I’m building my must-eat list now and would love your suggestions!

Best Beach in Kefalonia to Visit?

I’m heading to Kefalonia soon, but I might not have a lot of time to spend at the beach. I know the island is famous for its stunning coastline, so I want to make sure I visit at least one amazing beach while I’m there.

From what I’ve seen, Myrtos Beach looks incredible, but I’ve also heard great things about Petani Beach and Antisamos Beach. If you could visit just one beach in Kefalonia, which would you choose and why? I’m looking for a mix of scenery, accessibility, and a great swimming experience. Bonus points if there’s a nice taverna nearby for a quick meal! What do you think?

Tips for Hiking Mount Ainos?

Hey everyone! I’m heading to Kefalonia soon and really want to hike Mount Ainos while I’m there. Has anyone done it recently? I’d love to know what to expect in terms of trail conditions, difficulty, and how long it takes to reach the summit. I’ve read that there are a few different trails—any recommendations for the most scenic or manageable one?

Also, is it possible to hike from the base, or do most people drive partway up and start from the national park entrance? I’m going in the summer—should I be worried about heat or lack of shade on the trail?

Bonus question: did anyone spot the wild horses? I’ve heard about them and would be thrilled to catch a glimpse.

When do things shut down in Kefalonia in the fall?

I’m considering a trip to Kefalonia in mid-October and wanted to get some insight from those who have visited around that time. I’ve heard that many Greek islands start winding down their tourist season in the fall, and I’m wondering if that’s the case with Kefalonia too.

Are the main attractions, tavernas, and shops still open, or do things start closing up after the summer rush? I’d love to know if I’ll still be able to enjoy the beaches, boat trips, and some local food spots, or if it’ll be quieter with limited options.

Also, is the weather still pleasant for exploring and swimming in October? I’m hoping to experience a more relaxed vibe but don’t want to miss out on the island’s highlights.

Favorite places to see in Kefalonia?

I’m planning a trip to Kefalonia this spring/summer and would love your input on must-see places on the island. I’ve heard it’s one of the most beautiful Greek islands, and I want to make the most of my time there!

What were your favorite spots—beaches, villages, viewpoints, or natural attractions? I’ve seen photos of Myrtos Beach and Melissani Cave, which look stunning. Are they worth the hype? Any hidden gems you'd recommend that aren't overly touristy?

I’m also interested in local experiences—like wineries, small tavernas, walking trails, or cultural sites. Thank you!
