Tips for Where to Stay in Corfu

I’m planning a trip to Corfu and would love some advice on where to stay. I’m leaning toward something with a village feel—somewhere peaceful, beautiful, and authentic rather than super touristy. I’ve been looking into vacation rentals instead of hotels, but I’m still open to suggestions if there’s a special boutique place or hidden gem someone recommends.

Ideally, I’d love to be near a nice beach, have a few tavernas or cafes within walking distance, and enjoy the kind of setting where you can hear the birds in the morning and maybe chat with locals. I’m not against driving, but I’d like to avoid long treks every day if possible.

Any favorite villages or small towns in Corfu that fit this vibe? Would love to hear where you’ve stayed and why you liked it (if you did).

Corfu has some beautiful, peaceful villages that sound like just what you're looking for! I’d recommend checking out Agios Stefanos (NE)—it’s got a lovely laid-back vibe, a handful of waterfront tavernas, and a loyal following of travelers who return year after year for the authentic charm. It’s not too touristy, and many vacation rentals are tucked into olive groves with sea views.

Another great option is Pelekas—perched on a hill with stunning sunset views, it has a real village feel, and you’re close to Glyfada and Kontogialos beaches. There are also a few lovely family-run guesthouses and tavernas.

Also worth a look: Arillas or Agios Gordios if you want beach access and some local buzz without big crowds.

Wherever you stay, I highly recommend renting a car for flexibility, even if you don’t want to drive far daily.
