Visiting Corfu for Christmas

I’ll be visiting family in Corfu this Christmas, and I’m really excited to experience the island during the holiday season! While I’ve been to Corfu in the summer, this will be my first time there in winter, and I’m curious to know if there are any special traditions, events, or activities that happen around Christmas.

Are there any unique Corfiot customs I should be aware of? I’ve heard a little about the island’s Venetian influence and wonder if it shapes how Christmas is celebrated there. Also, are there any Christmas markets, concerts, or festive foods that I shouldn’t miss while I’m there?

I’d love to hear about any must-see spots or local celebrations to add to my itinerary. If you have any tips for experiencing a warm and authentic Corfiot Christmas, please share!

Information Needed on Canal D'Amor for a Date

Hi everyone! My partner and I are heading to Corfu soon with a small group of friends, but we’re hoping to sneak away for a little one-on-one time during the trip. We’ve heard about the Canal D’Amour and were wondering if it might make a good spot for a romantic date — maybe a walk, a swim, or even just to sit and take in the view.

Is it as picturesque and special as it sounds? Or is it more of a daytime photo-op spot?

We’d love to know if there’s a quieter time to go, any nearby tavernas for a cozy meal afterward, or anything else that would help us turn it into a memorable evening.

If you’ve been there with a partner — would you recommend it for a little getaway moment during a group trip? Appreciate any thoughts or tips!

Visiting Old Perithia in Corfu Advice

I’m planning a trip to Corfu and came across Old Perithia, the island’s oldest village nestled on the slopes of Mount Pantokrator. The idea of exploring a 14th-century village with its stone houses and Venetian architecture sounds fascinating. I’ve read that it was once a refuge from pirate attacks and malaria, and now stands as a protected heritage site with about 130 houses and eight churches .

I’m curious about what to expect when visiting. Are there specific spots within the village that are must-sees? I’ve heard there are several tavernas offering traditional Corfiot dishes—any recommendations on which ones to try? Also, is it worth hiking up to Mount Pantokrator from the village? I understand it’s about a 1.5-hour trek each way and offers panoramic views of Corfu and even glimpses of Italy on clear days .

Any tips or personal experiences about visiting Old Perithia would be greatly appreciated!

Paleokastritsa, summer 2025

Hi everyone

I have just joined this site to see if I can get some Corfu travel tips or maybe even meet some other people heading to Corfu next summer.
I am 53, from Derby, England, and I've decided to have a month's RnR in Paleokastritsa.
I'd be really keen to hear from anyone with any tips or insight into the area, life in Corfu, how I might be able to meet people and things to see and do. I'm thinking of hiring a moped to get around, do lots of reading, relaxing, hiking, eating and (a bit of) drinking! Most of all, reflecting and enjoying the environment - and the sunshine! I need to take some time to indulge in this.

What is Paleokastritsa like? From all of my research, it seems to be a good mix of quiet and lively (ie. not party town but also not completely dead). Are there restuarants there which aren't too expensive? Are there any good, chill out bars which stay open late? Also, are there ways to meet other travellers out there or is there anyone on here heading to Corfu next summer who'd be interested in connecting beforehand? It'd be really cool to build a little online community, if there was anyone in a similar position, even if they're going to a different part of the island.

Anyway, that's why I joined this site - to meet any others but also to find out about Corfu and paleokasistra. I'd love to hear from any of you!

List of My Favorite Places to Visit in Corfu

I have been seeing a lot of people asking about Corfu lately and I love that island! I thought I would share my top 5 favorite spots to visit in Corfu. Maybe this can help people plan!
  1. Corfu Old Town – A UNESCO World Heritage site, this area is full of Venetian-style alleys, historic buildings, and lively squares. The Old and New Fortresses offer incredible views, and the Liston Promenade is perfect for a coffee stop.
  2. Paleokastritsa – This coastal area has some of the most stunning beaches in Corfu, with clear blue waters and hidden caves. A boat tour is the best way to explore, and the monastery above the bay offers fantastic views.
  3. Achilleion Palace – Built by Empress Elisabeth of Austria, this palace is dedicated to Achilles and features beautiful gardens and impressive sculptures.
  4. Canal d’Amour (Sidari) – Known for its unique rock formations and crystal-clear waters, this is a great place to swim. There’s also a local legend that couples who swim through the canal will stay together forever.
  5. Mount Pantokrator – The highest point in Corfu, with panoramic views of the island and even Albania on clear days. The drive up is scenic, and the monastery at the top adds a historical touch.

Information about Corfu Public Transport?

I’m planning a trip to Corfu and trying to decide whether I need to rent a car or if public transportation will be enough to get around. I know I can look up schedules myself, but what I really want to hear is first-hand experiences from people who have actually used the buses in Corfu.

Are they reliable and frequent, or should I expect long waits and delays? Do they run late into the evening, or will I be stranded if I stay out too late? Also, are some areas of the island better to stay in if I want to rely on buses rather than a car?

I don’t mind renting a car if I really need to, but I’d love to avoid it if public transportation is decent. Any insights or tips from those who have been there? Thanks in advance!
