I’m planning a trip to Corfu and am particularly excited about exploring the island’s castles and fortresses. I’ve heard there are some incredible historical sites like the Old Fortress and the New Fortress in Corfu Town, but I’d love to hear more about them and any other castles that are worth visiting.

Does anyone have recommendations on the best way to explore these sites? Are there guided tours that provide a lot of historical context, or is it better to explore on your own? I’m also curious about any hidden spots or lesser-known castles around the island that I shouldn’t miss. Thank you!

That sounds like an amazing trip! Corfu’s Old and New Fortresses in Corfu Town are definitely must-sees. The Old Fortress dates back to the Byzantine era and offers stunning views of the town and sea. The New Fortress, built by the Venetians, has a more rugged feel and provides a fascinating contrast. I’d recommend guided tours for both, as they offer rich historical context and some hidden details you might miss exploring solo.

Beyond Corfu Town, don’t miss Angelokastro on the northwest coast. This dramatic cliffside castle offers panoramic views and is often less crowded. Another gem is Kassiopi Castle in the northeast, which has Byzantine origins and overlooks the charming seaside village. These spots can often be quieter, offering a more intimate experience. Enjoy your trip!

Foods to try on Corfu?

I’m starting to plan (or at least daydream about) a trip to Corfu next summer, though nothing is set in stone yet. I’ve been reading about the food there and it sounds amazing! I keep coming across three names that seem to be absolute must-tries: sofrito, pastitsada, and bourdeto.

From what I understand, sofrito is a veal or beef dish with garlic and parsley, pastitsada is pasta with a rich tomato sauce (sometimes with rooster, sometimes with beef), and bourdeto is a spicy fish stew. They all sound so different from each other, but very “Corfiot.”

If you’ve been to Corfu or have family from there, are these really the top local dishes, or are there others I should add to the list? Any favorite tavernas where you’ve had them? I’d love to know which foods really stood out to you during your visit.

Tips for Where to Stay in Corfu

I’m planning a trip to Corfu and would love some advice on where to stay. I’m leaning toward something with a village feel—somewhere peaceful, beautiful, and authentic rather than super touristy. I’ve been looking into vacation rentals instead of hotels, but I’m still open to suggestions if there’s a special boutique place or hidden gem someone recommends.

Ideally, I’d love to be near a nice beach, have a few tavernas or cafes within walking distance, and enjoy the kind of setting where you can hear the birds in the morning and maybe chat with locals. I’m not against driving, but I’d like to avoid long treks every day if possible.

Any favorite villages or small towns in Corfu that fit this vibe? Would love to hear where you’ve stayed and why you liked it (if you did).

Information Needed on Canal D'Amor for a Date

Hi everyone! My partner and I are heading to Corfu soon with a small group of friends, but we’re hoping to sneak away for a little one-on-one time during the trip. We’ve heard about the Canal D’Amour and were wondering if it might make a good spot for a romantic date — maybe a walk, a swim, or even just to sit and take in the view.

Is it as picturesque and special as it sounds? Or is it more of a daytime photo-op spot?

We’d love to know if there’s a quieter time to go, any nearby tavernas for a cozy meal afterward, or anything else that would help us turn it into a memorable evening.

If you’ve been there with a partner — would you recommend it for a little getaway moment during a group trip? Appreciate any thoughts or tips!

Information about Kavos in Corfu?

I'm thinking of heading to Corfu later this summer and came across Kavos as a potential base. I’ve seen really mixed things online — some say it’s party central, while others mention beautiful beaches and a surprisingly relaxed vibe if you go off-season or stay on the edges of town.

I’m not looking for hardcore nightlife, but I do enjoy a lively atmosphere, great food, and easy beach access. I’ll probably rent a car, so day trips are an option. Can anyone share firsthand experiences of staying in Kavos? Is it possible to enjoy it without being in the middle of the club scene? Is it worth it?

Corfu Itinerary for 3 Days?

It’s been quite a few years since I last visited Corfu, and I’m thinking of spending a few days there the next time I’m in Greece. I remember loving the island’s mix of Venetian charm, lush green hills, and crystal-blue beaches, but it’s been so long that I feel like I need a refresher!

If you had 3 full days in Corfu, how would you plan your itinerary? I’d love a balance of history, nature, and relaxation, maybe one day exploring Corfu Town and its fortresses, another out in the villages or countryside, and a day by the sea. I’m especially interested in beautiful coastal drives, local food spots, and any hidden gems that don’t feel overly touristy. What do you think?
