Visiting the changing of the guards in Athens

I love taking my little cousins to see the changing of the gaurds in Athens, it's one of my favorite things to do in the city and the kids always get a kick out of it. Anyone else?

It is so cool and is a must see for anyone visiting Athens! Best angle for a photo is straight on, advice would be do not try to take a photo on the side angles, when we did that last the police told us to move! LOL

This is one of my favorite things to do in Athens. The straight on pictures are the best but you should go well in advance to make sure you claim a good spot where your view will be unobstructed.

Info About the Psyrri Neighborhood in Athens?

Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip to Athens and considering staying in the Psyrri neighborhood. I’ve never stayed there before, but I keep hearing that people really love it—something about it having great character, food, and nightlife. I’d love to hear more from those of you who’ve actually stayed there or spent time wandering around.

What’s the vibe like during the day vs. at night? Is it walkable to the main sights like the Acropolis and Plaka? And how does it feel in terms of safety, especially for solo travelers?

I’m also curious about where the best local spots are to eat or grab a drink—any favorite tavernas, bakeries, or cafes you’d recommend in the area?

Would really appreciate any insights, especially from people who know Athens well. Is Psyrri worth it, or should I look elsewhere?

Getting Seafood in Athens?

I’ll be spending some time in Athens soon and would love recommendations for great seafood. I’ve visited Greece many times (I’m Greek myself), but I usually eat seafood on the islands rather than in the city. This time, though, I’ll be with friends who are only in Athens for a short visit, and I’d like them to enjoy a proper seafood meal without having to travel too far.

Are there neighborhoods or specific tavernas in Athens that really stand out for fresh fish or traditional seafood dishes? Do you think it’s better to head to Piraeus or Rafina, or are there hidden gems right in the city? I’d also love suggestions for places where locals go, not just tourist spots, and where the atmosphere is warm and authentic.

Best Athens Restaurants with Acropolis Views?

I’ve been to Athens many times over the years, but one thing I never get tired of is a great meal paired with an Acropolis view. I’ve already been to a few of the classic spots, but for my next trip I’d love to branch out and try something new, maybe somewhere a little unexpected, or a place locals actually enjoy as much as visitors.

I’m open to anything: modern Greek, traditional tavernas, rooftop bars with small plates, or even hotels with great terraces that allow non-guests. What are your favorite restaurants in Athens with Acropolis views?

Nighttime view of the Parthenon?

I’ll be in Athens soon and I’m especially excited to see the Parthenon lit up at night — I’ve heard it’s magical when it’s glowing above the city.

I’d love your tips on the best places to view it after dark. I’m open to rooftop bars, scenic streets, or quiet local spots where you can just sit and take it in. I’ve seen some photos from Lycabettus Hill and Filopappou, but I’m wondering what else people recommend — maybe somewhere less crowded?

Bonus if there’s a view with dinner or drinks involved, but I’m just as happy with a peaceful nighttime stroll and a clear view. I have been to Athens plenty of times - I just never really thought about where to go at night to have a great view.

Best Places for Sunset in Athens?

I realized recently that even though I visit Athens about once a year, I’ve never actually paid attention to the sunset there. I don’t have a trip planned at the moment, I’m just gathering ideas for the future, but now I’m curious about the best places in the city to watch the sun go down.

Are there classic spots locals love? I’ve heard of Lycabettus Hill and some rooftop bars, but I’m sure there are lesser-known viewpoints, coastal areas, or even neighborhood corners that offer beautiful light in the evening. I’d also love to know if certain places are better at different times of year or if the atmosphere changes depending on whether you’re in the center or closer to the Athens Riviera.

If you had to recommend your favorite places for a memorable sunset in Athens, where would you send someone who’s finally ready to pay attention?
