I'll be traveling to Rhodes soon and I'm very interested in visiting the ruins of Kamiros. I've heard it's one of the island's hidden gems and a must-see for history buffs. Has anyone here visited? If so, I'd love to hear your advice and any tips you have for making the most out of the trip.

A few specific questions I have:
  1. Best time to visit – When is the best time of day to go to avoid crowds and heat?
  2. Getting there – Is it better to rent a car or take public transportation?
  3. Guided tours – Are there any recommended guides or tours that provide a deeper understanding of the site's history?
  4. What to bring – Any essentials I should pack for the trip?
  5. Nearby attractions – Are there any other interesting spots nearby worth checking out?
Any other tips or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

best to go early in the morning .hire a car as buses are not very frequent. you do not need a guide look up its history on line.wear sensible footwear not flip flops. look at nearby kamiros beach & kopria beach.both have good tavernas

Some information about Kamiros:

Best time to visit: Go early in the morning to avoid the heat and crowds. The site opens at 8 AM.

Getting there: Renting a car is the best option for flexibility. However, buses from Rhodes town are available if you prefer public transport.

Guided tours: I highly recommend taking a guided tour. Our guide provided fascinating insights into the site's history.

What to bring: Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat, and comfortable walking shoes. There's minimal shade, so be prepared for the sun.

Nearby attractions: Check out the ancient city of Lindos and its acropolis, and the Valley of the Butterflies if in season.

Lindos & Valley of Butterflys is NOT near Ancient Kamiros .
Public transport to Ancient Kamiros is VERY LIMITED
Lindos is over an hours drive away. Butterfly valley 30 mins . drive

Traditional Dishes to Try While on Rhodes?

I’ll be visiting Rhodes this summer, and I can’t wait to explore the island’s food scene! I know Greek cuisine is amazing, but I’d love to try local dishes that are unique to Rhodes.

Are there any must-try specialties that I shouldn’t miss? I’ve heard about pitaroudia (chickpea fritters) and lakani (a slow-cooked meat dish), but I’d love more recommendations—whether it’s seafood, traditional meze, or local desserts.

Also, if you have any restaurant or taverna recommendations, I’d really appreciate it! I want to experience authentic, home-style cooking rather than just touristy spots. Bonus points if it’s by the sea with a great view!

Looking forward to your tips and suggestions—thanks in advance!

Films made on Rhodes

Do you know of any more ?

Most relaxing beaches on Rhodes?

I could use some updated advice. When I sit at the beach, I don’t want it to be crazy—I’m looking for calm, quiet, and a bit of space to breathe. I just found out in another thread that some of the beaches I was considering for my upcoming trip to Rhodes have changed a lot over the years—apparently some are way more crowded or developed now than they used to be.

Does anyone have recommendations for truly relaxing beaches on the island? I don’t need beach bars or party vibes—just clear water, a peaceful atmosphere, and preferably not packed with sunbeds wall to wall. A little taverna nearby would be a bonus, but I’m happy packing my own lunch too.

Are there any spots that still feel a bit under the radar, or at least mellow during certain times of day? I’d really appreciate any suggestions from recent visitors.
