Do Greeks take breakfast seriously? I heard from some friends that many Greeks do eat brunch, but that seems more like a once in a while thing. What do Greeks eat for breakfast on a regular basis? I have observed all kinds of things, from nothing to maybe a tiro pita or something bought on the street, washed down with a Greek coffee. Also, I have seen people eat fruit and nothing else for breakfast.

Breakfast is definitely not as popular as mesimeriano (lunch) is in Greece. With that being said, we do like to eat breakfast. Some popular options are:

Koulouri thesalonikis
Tiropita
Spanakopita
Auta tiganita (fried eggs)
Omlete
Tsoureki
Keik (cake)
Bread with honey Or marmalade

When I was in Greece I ate a lot of fruit and cheese fr breakfast. Sometimes I would grab a tiro pita somewhere on the street. I wonder if it is my Greek DNA but I am not a huge breakfast person! I did enjoy brunch once when I was in Greece and there were omelets, fried eggs, different cakes, tiro pita, olives, cheese, some fruit - in the spread. It was yummy!

The breakfast of champions: Yoghurt with walnuts and honey (or just honey). It is yummy!!!
All washed down with a Greek coffee of course!

Favorite Greek Dishes Using Lamb

I'm a big fan of Greek cuisine, especially when it comes to lamb, but I'm looking to expand my knowledge and try some new recipes. I love the classic lamb souvlaki and roasted lamb with potatoes, and I absolutely loved both. But I know that there are a lot of dishes out there. What are you favorites?

I’m interested in anything from stews to grilled options, and would also love to hear about regional specialties if you know any. Any tips on cooking techniques or seasoning that bring out the best flavors in lamb would be super helpful too!

Top Greek Dishes for a Tourist to Try?

I’m helping a friend who’s going to Greece for the first time and is super excited to try the local food. The thing is, I eat Greek food all the time, so I’m so used to it that it’s hard for me to narrow down my top recommendations. My friend wants to experience the best Greek dishes, from iconic classics to maybe some hidden gems.

Of course, they’ve heard of gyros and souvlaki, but I’d love to give them more suggestions that go beyond the basics. I’m thinking dishes like moussaka, spanakopita, or maybe even some regional specialties. What do you guys think? What are your favorite dishes that every tourist should try while in Greece?

Also, if anyone knows of specific spots or regions where certain dishes are a must, that would be a huge help! Thanks in advance!

What are your favorite Greek ladera dishes?

I really love how simple yet flavorful they are! The rich use of olive oil combined with fresh vegetables and herbs is such a perfect combination. So far, I’ve tried fasolakia (green beans in olive oil and tomato) and briam (baked vegetable medley), and both were delicious.

I’d love to hear from others—what are your favorite ladera dishes? Are there any unique or lesser-known recipes I should try? I’m also curious about any tips for cooking them to get the most flavor. For example, is there a secret to getting the vegetables to absorb the olive oil and herbs better, or does the dish get better after sitting for a day or two?

I’m excited to experiment with more of these traditional dishes and would appreciate any recommendations for must-try ladera recipes. Any suggestions?

Using Capers in Greek Cooking?

I’ve recently started experimenting with capers in my cooking, and I know they’re used quite a bit in Greek cuisine, especially in dishes from the islands. I love their briny, tangy flavor, but I’m still trying to figure out the best ways to incorporate them into my Greek dishes.

Does anyone have tips on how to use capers effectively in Greek cooking? I’ve seen them in recipes like Greek salads, fish dishes, and even in some sauces, but I’d love to know more specific dishes where they really shine. Should I rinse them first to reduce the saltiness, or is it better to keep that intense flavor?

This is something I noticed in Greece in the islands - that capers are somewhat common.

Unique Greek Dishes to Make for a Party

We all know about the common Greek dishes that do well for crowds, like souvlaki, tiro pita, spanakopita, even pastitsio or moussaka. I tend to rotate through the same common list of dishes.

I have a dinner party coming up and I want some ideas on how to mix it up. Can you think of anything unique or lesser known that I can make? I don't mind if it's time consuming - I am up for anything really.

I had a friend tell me that maybe I want to make a leg of lamb or something like that - and I don't want to do something like that for now because that is also a common dish for me. I am, however, considering kleftiko for the main course.

Any advice is welcome.
