I rarely hear people talk about the split between the Orthodox and Catholic Church. What exactly led to the split, historically speaking. And how did the two different churches come to be? I’ve always admired how Greek orthodoxy has such deep historical roots, and how Orthodoxy has been governed mainly by Greeks for so many years. If anyone knows a bit of backstory, please let me know. There is a bit of conflicting information online.

This link explains it very well. The Orthodox Church called into question many practices of the Catholic Church. From what I understand, it wasn't just a religious disagreement, but also a political one.

Events leading up to the Greek War for Independence?

The Greek War for Independence is celebrated March 25th and that is just around the corner. It got me thinking about the events that led up to the war, because we are about in that time period to think about it.

When I study this, what topics or events do you recommend I look up?

Getting a Good Overview of Greek History

I am trying to learn about the Greek culture because I married a Greek-American. I figure that history is part of that! So, can you guys share with me some great resources that will give me an overview of the history? I found this on Youtube, don't know if it is any good. I know, I am not a kid. But I figured this would be a nice overview. But, this only covers Ancient Greece. We are planning a trip to Greece and my husband loves history, so I want to at least have a foundation before we go to the country.

More than one Minoan Palace on Crete?

I didn't realize that Knossos wasn't the only Minoan Palace on Crete, but from what I understand it might be the largest?

I am planning a trip to Crete soon to see some of the ruins and here is where I plan to visit - did I miss anything?

1. Archaeological Museum of Athens
2. Knossos Palace
3. Malia
4. Phaistos
5. Zakros

Are there any other museums I should visit? I am learning about Minoan culture...

History of the Orthodox Church in Greece

I know that there is some information about the early church in Greece in the Bible.

Are there other resources to check out that aren't online? I am not sure I trust the online sources.

I know that the early church was set up in places like Ephesus, and that Paul did a lot to speak on the things.

The Battle Between The Walls 392 BCE

In February 392 BCE, blood flowed through the streets of Corinth. The citizens of this great metropolis had turned on one another in an act of unforgiving bloodshed. Those in favour of continuing the war with Sparta initiated the violence and those advocating for peace were their victims. Sickened by the slaughter; two Corinthian men, Pasimelus and Alcimenes fled the city. Risking life and limb they escaped the carnage by swimming along a swollen watercourse, heading for the Spartan base at Sikyon.
