What is the public transit like to and from the Athens airport?

The airport rail will take you all the way into Athens. Just make sure you are aware of everyone around you and keep your luggage close to you. Otherwise, should be all good! I've used this before and haven't had a problem.

Very slow, but easy to use. I once took the metro from the airport to syntagma.

There is a subway and buses going to and from the airport. You can get into downtown Athens but im not too sure about other places

Rail or bus are easy, there are buses that will take you directly to Syntagma square and the rail can take you directly to join the metro

Best hello and welcome to Hellas is a taxi ride from the airport.
BUT MUST BE A REAL GREEK taxi driver not a xenos
 
It's easy to use and most of the time, it's reliable. I've heard of people having some interesting detours. Some people that I know - one time they were taking a bus to the airport and the driver decided to take a detour to get a coffee without telling the passengers, and everyone was just sitting there on the bus . My friends were nervous they'd miss their flight. The Greeks on the bus weren't bothered and thought it was normal. Personally, I prefer either renting a car and driving myself or taking a taxi.

Athens - Historical Sites I May Have Missed?

I’m gathering information for a potential future trip to Athens. I’m Greek and have been to the city many times over the years, but I’ve realized there’s still so much I haven’t explored—especially when it comes to lesser-known ancient sites.

I’m really interested in hidden gems of Ancient Greek history—places that aren’t on every tourist itinerary. I already know the Acropolis and the major museums pretty well, so I’m looking for smaller ruins, overlooked temples, or quieter archaeological spots that might be a little off the radar.

I’d love to hear about places that feel special or atmospheric, even if they’re not as polished or popular. Bonus if they’re easy to reach from the city center, but I’m open to anything meaningful.

If you’ve come across anything like that, I’d really appreciate your suggestions!

Spending a month in Athens in summer?

I’ve visited Athens many times, but always for short trips, a week here, a few days there. Next year, I’m thinking of doing something different: spending an entire month in Athens during the summer.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s stayed long-term in the city. How different does Athens feel when you settle in instead of just visiting? Do you end up finding a rhythm, favorite markets, cafés, or neighborhoods to hang out in?

I’m considering renting an apartment in Pangrati or Koukaki to live like a local. My only concern is the heat, does it get overwhelming in July or August if you’re not escaping to the islands?

Any insights on pacing daily life, day trips, or how locals spend their summer in the city would be really appreciated.

Best Athens Restaurants with Acropolis Views?

I’ve been to Athens many times over the years, but one thing I never get tired of is a great meal paired with an Acropolis view. I’ve already been to a few of the classic spots, but for my next trip I’d love to branch out and try something new, maybe somewhere a little unexpected, or a place locals actually enjoy as much as visitors.

I’m open to anything: modern Greek, traditional tavernas, rooftop bars with small plates, or even hotels with great terraces that allow non-guests. What are your favorite restaurants in Athens with Acropolis views?

Best Views of the Parthenon at Night?

Hey everyone! I’m heading to Athens soon and can’t wait to soak in the history—and the views. I’ve heard that the Parthenon is beautifully lit at night and I’d really love to catch some magical views of it after sunset.

Does anyone have favorite spots in the city for seeing the Parthenon at night? Are there rooftop bars or restaurants with great views that are actually worth the price? I’ve also heard about places like Philopappos Hill and Areopagus—are those safe and scenic after dark?

I’m hoping for something memorable and maybe even a little romantic—open to free viewpoints, paid spots, or any hidden gems. Bonus if it’s a good place to take photos too.

Proper Greek Coffee in Athens?

It’s been over 10 years since I’ve been to Athens, and I’m heading back soon. One thing I’m really looking forward to is sitting down for a proper Greek coffee—but I want the real deal, not some watered-down version in a touristy café.

Back when I visited years ago, I remember stumbling into a tiny place with older locals playing tavli, strong coffee being brewed in briki pots, and that unmistakable smell of roasted grounds—it was perfect. Of course, I didn’t write the name down, and who knows if it’s even still there.

Any recommendations for places like that? Somewhere that serves traditional Greek coffee, in an authentic, no-frills environment where you actually feel like you're in Greece, not just a photo-op café. I’d love to hear about your favorite spots, especially if they’re a bit off the beaten path.
