I might be visiting friends in Rhodes this summer, and I’m trying to figure out which parts of the island feel the most local and authentic versus heavily touristy.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll definitely check out the major spots and beaches, but I usually enjoy the places where you can actually slow down a little, grab a coffee, sit at a taverna, and get more of a feel for everyday life on the island.

My friends have mentioned that Rhodes has very different vibes depending on where you are, especially once you get away from the main tourist areas.

So I’m curious what people here would recommend. Are there any places that really capture the atmosphere of the island beyond the typical tourist experience?

I know someone who visited Rhodes years ago, and one of the things they mentioned was how different the island feels once you get away from the busiest tourist areas. They said Lindos was beautiful, especially early in the morning before the crowds arrived. Even though it’s a popular destination, the atmosphere was much more relaxed when the streets were quiet.

They also recommended exploring some of the inland villages. Archangelos stood out as a place where they felt they got a glimpse of everyday island life, with local cafés, bakeries, and residents going about their daily routines. Embonas was another favorite, particularly for traditional tavernas and local wine.

Their advice was to rent a car if possible and spend some time wandering beyond the main resort areas. According to them, some of their favorite memories came from discovering small villages and stopping for coffee rather than visiting the major attractions.

What do you love most about Rhodes?

I’ve been reading about Rhodes lately, and the more I learn, the more it seems like a place that offers a little bit of everything. The island has such an interesting mix of history, beaches, beautiful villages, and great food. The Old Town alone looks incredible, with its medieval streets, stone buildings, and all that history around every corner.

At the same time, people talk a lot about the beaches, the clear water, and places like Lindos with its white houses and views of the acropolis. It seems like Rhodes manages to balance culture, scenery, and relaxation really well.

For those of you who have visited, what stands out the most when you think back on your trip? Was it a specific place, like a beach or village, or more the overall atmosphere of the island?

I’d love to hear what made Rhodes special for you and what left the biggest impression.

happy new year

to all on here have a happy new year

What Happened to the Colossus of Rhodes?

I’ve been reading about Colossus of Rhodes and realized I don’t actually know what happened to it. I know it was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and that it stood somewhere near the harbor in Rhodes, but beyond that, the details are a bit fuzzy for me.

Did it collapse because of an earthquake? And if so, what happened to the remains afterward? I’ve heard different versions—some say it stayed in pieces for a long time, others say it was eventually removed or sold off.

Also, is there any real evidence of exactly where it stood, or is that still debated? Curious to hear what people know or have learned, especially if you’ve visited Rhodes and seen any related sites or history in person.

How do I start a successful livestream production service?

Been messing around with livestreaming for friends and small events, and people keep telling me I should turn it into a real service. I love the tech side and the creative chaos, but I have zero clue how to start making it into a paid thing without crashing and burning. Gear upgrades, pricing, finding clients, handling the pressure of live stuff... it's all swirling in my head. If anyone here has built a service like this or works in production, I’d love some real talk on what actually works and what to avoid.

Can You Walk the City Walls in Rhodes?

I’m starting to plan a visit to Rhodes and keep seeing photos of the medieval Old Town walls, which made me wonder how accessible they actually are. I know the city walls are a major part of Rhodes’ history, but I’m curious about the practical side of visiting them.

Can you actually walk along the city walls, or are they mostly something you admire from below? If walking is possible, are there specific entrances or sections that are open to the public? I’m also wondering how long it takes and whether it feels more like a short stroll or a full, immersive walk.

For those who’ve done it, is it worth prioritizing? Are there good viewpoints from the walls, or parts that stand out more than others? I’d love to hear what the experience is like and whether it’s something you’d recommend fitting into a first visit to Rhodes.
