I thought I'd ask a more of a provocative question on this forum. I'm absolutely in love with Greece, and I truly think that every single place in the country is beautiful. But of course, some things aren't for everyone. Which makes me ask the question, what place in Greece do you regret travelling to? I can't wait to see some of these answers and debate in the threads!!

Well, the one place I know I'd regret going to is Mykonos, and that said, I have no intention of ever visiting. A close second is Spetses. I wouldn't say I regret goin there, I just didn't enjoy it that much. It's expensive and not worth the money for what the island offers.

Most Greeks in Greece cringe when they think about Mykonos - it's not greek, it's outrageously expensive, it's filled with tourists, and the locals who still live there don't even have a public beach available to them. I can keep going but I won't.

I regret going to Mykonos as well. To be fair, was only there for a day and didn’t go beyond walking distance of the harbour. It was hot, crowded and expensive.

What a shame, I've heard bad reviews as well. Did you go on a cruise?

Yes it was a day trip, where we came over on the Alexander from Naxos. Boat ride was very nice and also stopped at Delos.
Naxos was perfect. Stayed there ten days.

Stayed in Mykonos to go to Delos. That is a good reason 😉

Don’t regret going to any island. Won’ t go to Iraklia again. Too small, but the people were friendly, the beach was good so no regret.

No regrets at all - I've loved visiting everywhere I have been. Some, though, are definite repeats - like Crete - whereas some I don't necessarily feel the need to return to, simply because there is so much to see.

Best places to visit on mainland Greece?

I know, the islands are a popular choice. I've been to the islands so many times, but I have seen very little of the mainland. I have been to Athens and the surrounding area, but that's about it. Do you guys have any recommendations for me? I am interested in seeing Corinth, the Peloponnese, the main archaeological sites like Delphi and Olympia and maybe Marathon. Is there anything else I should consider?

Athens car rental question

If I rent a car in Athens, do you think that I would be able to put it on a ferry to go to another island, like Crete?

My next trip to Greece is going to include visiting a bunch of people in Athens, not all of whom are in convenient locations to the metro, and then head to Crete. I like to have a car on Crete because I want to explore. I don't want to have to rent a car in two different places. Any suggestions?

Best place to visit in Greece with a large group?

My next trip to Greece is going to happen soon - maybe late summer of 2023. At first, I thought there would be just a few of us, but the group has grown considerably. Everyone has different travel styles and everyone is chiming in about what they want from the trip. Here are what people desire:

** Good nightlife (doesn't have to be on par with Mykonos, but it has to be fun for people in their mid 20's to mid 30's)

** Shopping (the shoppers in the group aren't super picky, they like to visit souvenir shops, fashion boutiques, that kind of thing)

** Beaches (we all agree on this one - and most of us prefer an organized beach with some restaurants and shops nearby, or close to the place we are staying)

** Outdoor sports - we have a few avid hikers in the group, a few that like things like kayaks and paddle boards, and one scuba diver

** Some of the people are budget conscious, but they have enough money to enjoy a trip to Greece as long as it isn't crazy expensive (so Mykonos or Santorini might be out for them)

** One couple might turn it into their honeymoon

** Not everyone can stay the whole time

I have a few possibilities, and I am open to advice and suggestions: Athens, Crete, Peloponnese (like Monemvasia), Thessaloniki

Traveling to Greece During Christmas

Has anyone here visited Greece for Christmas? I have only ever gone to Greece during the warmer months!

Specifically, I am trying to figure out if this is something I want to experience some day. I really want to learn about he real culture of Greece. I know, I have my traditions that have been passed down, but unless I go to Greece at Christmas someday, I am not sure I will ever truly understand.

Are things closed in Greece for December because of the holiday and will I have trouble as a visitor? I do have friends I can visit and maybe even stay with. It might be more fun that way.
