Does anyone know what role Mani played in starting or encouraging Greece's independence? I love Mani! The region is so beautiful

The Greek War for Independence actually started earlier in Mani (March 17, 1821) than it did for the rest of Greece (March 25, 2021) when Mani officially declared war against the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans constantly attacked Mani, hoping to finally gain a foothold there, but they were never able. Tired of the constant invasion attempts, Mani finally declared war. The rest of Greece followed over a week later, declaring war against the Ottomans on March 25th.

I think Mani declared war against the Ottoman Empire about a week or so before the rest of Greece. Mani is looked at as a catalyst for the war, their boldness in declaring war as a region inspired the rest of Greece to follow suit. Fascinating part of Greek history!

That's a beautiful story, it must be very powerful and prideful to be from this region

The Battle Between The Walls 392 BCE

In February 392 BCE, blood flowed through the streets of Corinth. The citizens of this great metropolis had turned on one another in an act of unforgiving bloodshed. Those in favour of continuing the war with Sparta initiated the violence and those advocating for peace were their victims. Sickened by the slaughter; two Corinthian men, Pasimelus and Alcimenes fled the city. Risking life and limb they escaped the carnage by swimming along a swollen watercourse, heading for the Spartan base at Sikyon.

Getting a Good Overview of Greek History

I am trying to learn about the Greek culture because I married a Greek-American. I figure that history is part of that! So, can you guys share with me some great resources that will give me an overview of the history? I found this on Youtube, don't know if it is any good. I know, I am not a kid. But I figured this would be a nice overview. But, this only covers Ancient Greece. We are planning a trip to Greece and my husband loves history, so I want to at least have a foundation before we go to the country.

More than one Minoan Palace on Crete?

I didn't realize that Knossos wasn't the only Minoan Palace on Crete, but from what I understand it might be the largest?

I am planning a trip to Crete soon to see some of the ruins and here is where I plan to visit - did I miss anything?

1. Archaeological Museum of Athens
2. Knossos Palace
3. Malia
4. Phaistos
5. Zakros

Are there any other museums I should visit? I am learning about Minoan culture...
