I'm planning my very first trip to Athens, Greece, and I'm super excited! I've heard so many amazing things about this historic city, but I want to make sure I don't miss out on any must-see spots or hidden gems.

For those of you who have been to Athens before, what are the key things I absolutely need to visit? Here are a few things I've heard about:
  • The Acropolis and Parthenon
  • The Ancient Agora
  • The National Archaeological Museum
  • Plaka neighborhood
I'd love your recommendations on these places or any other sites, restaurants, or activities that you think are worth checking out. Also, any tips on the best times to visit certain spots or how to avoid the crowds would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks in advance for your advice! Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

The Acropolis Museum and then walk around Filopapou Hill to see Socrates prison and the pnyx (birthplace of democracy).

Athens is a city rich in history and culture! Start with the iconic Acropolis and the Parthenon for breathtaking views and ancient architecture. The Acropolis Museum and the National Archaeological Museum offer incredible insights into Greek history. Stroll through the Plaka neighborhood for charming streets, local shops, and tavernas. Don't miss the Ancient Agora and the Temple of Hephaestus. For a hidden gem, visit the Anafiotika area, a picturesque village-like neighborhood beneath the Acropolis. Lastly, catch the sunset from Lycabettus Hill for a stunning panoramic view of the city.

Tips for visiting Kerameikos Cemetery?

I’m planning a visit to Kerameikos Cemetery in Athens and would love some tips! I know it’s one of the most significant archaeological sites in the city, but it seems to get overshadowed by places like the Acropolis and Ancient Agora.

For those who have been:
  • What’s the best time of day to visit for a peaceful experience?
  • Are there any must-see tombs or monuments I shouldn’t miss?
  • How much time should I set aside to explore the site and museum?
  • Is there good signage, or would it be worth hiring a guide?
  • Any interesting historical facts or myths I should know before going?
Thanks in advance!

Advice for Bartering in Monastiraki?

On my last trip to Athens, I spent some time wandering through Monastiraki and loved the vibrant atmosphere, but I quickly realized that bartering is a skill I could use some help with! I know haggling is expected at flea markets and souvenir stalls, but I wasn’t sure how much to negotiate without being rude.

For those who’ve successfully bartered in Monastiraki—or anywhere else in Greece—what are your best tips? Are there certain phrases in Greek that help? How much should I aim to negotiate off the original price? Are there particular times of day when vendors are more willing to give a deal?

I’d love to hear any advice, personal experiences, or even mistakes to avoid. I want to be respectful while also making sure I get a fair price. Thanks in advance!

Which Neighborhood in Athens is the Best to Stay?

I’m planning a trip to Athens and need some advice on the best neighborhood to stay in. I've stayed in the Plaka and Thissio - both were fabulous. But with so many options, I am wondering if I am missing out. I’m looking for a place that’s central enough to explore the main attractions like the Acropolis, Plaka, and the museums, but also has a local vibe with good food and cafés.

I’ve heard great things about areas like Monastiraki, Plaka, and Kolonaki, but I’m curious about what each neighborhood has to offer. Are some better for walking and sightseeing? Which areas are quieter but still close to the action?

Also, safety is a priority for me, especially at night, so any insights on neighborhoods to avoid or tips for getting around would be much appreciated.

What are some Value For Money restaurants to eat in Athens?

I'm curious where can i eat in Athens without breaking the bank! All touristic spots seem expensive! Do you know any VFM restaurants!

Nightlife Areas in Athens?

Hey everyone! I’m heading back to Athens soon and I’m hoping to revisit some of the nightlife spots I was shown on my last trip — but I can’t remember where they were! ? Last time I was there, a friendly taxi driver pointed out a few popular areas for bars and nightlife as we were driving around, and they seemed super lively with people spilling out onto the streets. I remember one had a kind of artsy, alternative vibe, and another seemed more chic and upscale.

Does anyone know which areas he might have been pointing out? I’m guessing places like Psiri or Gazi might have been on the list, but I’d love some up-to-date recommendations — especially places that locals like to go, not just tourist spots. I’m into live music, cool atmospheres, and anywhere with good drinks and energy. Thanks in advance!
