I am just curious - what types of wedding receptions are common in Greece? For the most part, it looks like the celebrations often take place outside, and there are usually a lot of people there. As I am not Greek and don't have family in Greece, my reception would be pretty small. I don't know what to do!

If you have a super traditional family, most of the weddings I have heard of take place in the family village, outdoors, and everyone pitches in and the party goes all day and often into the next day. But, there have also been more formal situations, as well... I am not sure I have actually never looked into it myself. Hopefully others can chime in!

Etiquette and what wear to a Greek wedding?

I am scheduled to go to a Greek wedding in a few months and I am trying to figure out the etiquette of what to wear. It is a Greek-Canadian wedding, fairly traditional in a Greek church with a reception after. Both the bride and groom are Greek-Canadian.

I need advice for wardrobe for men and women, as well as kids. The wedding is in the afternoon, the reception at night. The wedding is in early June. There are no instructions on the invitation on how to dress.

National holidays in Greece with history?

I have been researching about Greek history and culture lately. Recently, I spent some time learning about the events surrounding Greek Independence Day and thought the research was very satisfying.

I would love to repeat it! Are there any national holidays in Greece coming up that point to events in history? If so, what should I pay attention to and what should I research?

Best Greek Independence Day Parades?

I know Greek Independence Day is coming up. I am curious, where in the word are there the best celebrations? I don't have time to travel far this year, but I could keep in mind for next year.

What do people typically do in Greece for it? Are there parades? Where is the biggest parade? I know in the US there are typically parades in Chicago, New York, and Boston.

Fasting or Giving Something Up for Lent

Orthodox Christian Lent started today... I am curious - what do people here do for it? Many people I know "give something up" other people "Fast" according to the prescribed church fast.

I am not sure what I want to do this year. It is hard following the fast, but also not too bad because I don't eat a lot of meat.. I might want to do something that feels a bit more personal...

Gift at a Greek Wedding in Canada?

The couple is originally from Greece - the family only just came ten years ago. They are young, but the family holds to Greek traditions. The wedding is in Canada because that is where they settled.

I have sorted out what to wear, no I need insight as to what to give the couple! They actually don't even have a registry.
