My cousin is looking for some romantic and secluded wedding locations in Crete. I am wondering if any of you have been to weddings and cream, or gotten married there yourselves. The wedding won’t be religious, so it doesn’t need to be in any specific place like a church. I am open to any suggestions! Thanks everyone!

Are they Orthodox Christians? That could make a difference. I would recommend that he or she hires a wedding planner on Crete to help sort this out. I haven't been to a wedding on Crete, but I saw a wedding party taking photos at the beach at Elafonisi. I have no idea where the actual ceremony was, though. If they were Orthodox they had to have the ceremony at a church or an outdoor sanctified altar.

Tips for Staying a Month on Crete?

I’m planning to spend a full month in Crete and would love tips from anyone who’s done a longer stay on the island. I’ve visited Greece before, but this will be my first time really settling in one place for a while—and Crete has always been on my list.

I’m still deciding where to base myself. Should I stay in one spot like Chania or Heraklion the whole time, or split my time between regions? I want a mix of beach time, good food, small village charm, and maybe a little hiking or history. I’ll be working remotely a bit, so reliable Wi-Fi is a must.

Also curious... what are the must-do experiences over a longer stay? Any favorite hidden beaches, local festivals, day trips, or authentic food spots I shouldn’t miss?

Venetian Fortress in Rethymno

I’m planning to visit the Venetian fortress (Fortezza) in Rethymno on my upcoming trip to Crete, and I’d love to hear your tips to make the most of it! I’m really into history and architecture, so I’m excited to explore this landmark, but I’m wondering about a few things:
  • What’s the best time of day to visit? I’d love to avoid crowds and enjoy good lighting for photos.
  • Are there guided tours available, and would you recommend one, or is it better to explore on my own?
  • How much time should I set aside for visiting? I'd be doing a day trip from Chania.
Also, are there good spots nearby to grab a meal after? Thanks in advance!

2 Weeks on Crete?

I’m planning a two-week trip to Crete, and I’d love some advice! Is two weeks too long, or is there enough to see and do without feeling rushed? I want a mix of beaches, history, food, and outdoor adventures, but I’m not sure how to structure my time.

Would it make sense to split my stay between Chania and Heraklion, or should I add a third base, like Rethymno or Agios Nikolaos? I definitely want to hike Samaria Gorge, visit Knossos, and relax at Elafonissi and Balos, but I’m also interested in hidden gems and authentic villages.

For those who’ve spent an extended time in Crete—what were your favorite experiences? Any must-visit tavernas, wineries, or cultural spots? I’d love to hear how you’d spend two weeks without it feeling repetitive. Looking forward to your tips!

Good Snorkeling Places on Crete?

I’m planning a trip to Crete and would love to include some snorkeling in my itinerary. With its crystal-clear waters and diverse marine life, Crete seems like a snorkeler’s paradise, but I’m unsure where to start.

Are there specific beaches or coves you’d recommend for snorkeling? I’ve heard Balos Lagoon and Elafonisi are beautiful, but are they good for snorkeling, or are there better spots? I’m particularly interested in places where I can see vibrant underwater scenery, fish, or maybe even interesting rock formations or caves.

If you have any tips about snorkeling tours or places where I can rent gear, that would be super helpful too! Bonus points for quiet or less crowded spots, as I’m looking for a peaceful experience.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Advice for Road Trip Across Crete?

I’ll be spending 10 days on Crete this summer, and I’d love some advice on planning a road trip across the island! My goal is to stay in a few different, notable places for a couple of days each, to experience as much of Crete’s unique charm as possible.

I’m thinking of starting in Heraklion to explore Knossos Palace and the Archaeological Museum, but where should I go from there? Should I include Chania, Rethymno, or the south coast? Any must-visit villages, beaches, or historical sites along the way?

I’d also appreciate tips for scenic driving routes and local restaurants to try in smaller towns. Is it easy to find accommodations on the go, or should I book ahead? I'll be going in early June.
