Where is the best place to have a secluded and romantic wedding in Crete?

My cousin is looking for some romantic and secluded wedding locations in Crete. I am wondering if any of you have been to weddings and cream, or gotten married there yourselves. The wedding won’t be religious, so it doesn’t need to be in any specific place like a church. I am open to any suggestions! Thanks everyone!

Are they Orthodox Christians? That could make a difference. I would recommend that he or she hires a wedding planner on Crete to help sort this out. I haven't been to a wedding on Crete, but I saw a wedding party taking photos at the beach at Elafonisi. I have no idea where the actual ceremony was, though. If they were Orthodox they had to have the ceremony at a church or an outdoor sanctified altar.

If you are still looking then Neroulakia farm is a beautiful quiet place, it even has its own private church.

Finding Cretan Lyra Music while Visiting?

I’m heading to Crete in just a few weeks, and one thing I really don’t want to miss is experiencing live Cretan lyra music. I’ve read that it’s such a big part of the island’s culture, especially paired with the laouto and traditional dances. But I’m not sure where to actually find it as a visitor.

Are there specific tavernas, kafeneia, or music nights that tend to feature live lyra performances? Do some villages or towns have a stronger music scene than others? I’ll be spending time in both Chania and Rethymno, with maybe a day or two in Heraklion, so tips in those areas would be especially helpful. Thank you so much! I have been to Greece before, but I've found this music unintentionally - I want to really seek it out and enjoy it.

I’m starting to plan a possible family trip to Crete next summer, and I’d love some advice from people who know the island well. What are the best beaches in Crete for families? I’m looking for places with calm water, easy access, and not too much walking from the car, basically somewhere kid-friendly without sacrificing the beauty Crete is known for.

I’ve heard mixed things: some people say the north coast has gentler seas, while others insist the south coast is more peaceful and less crowded. Elafonissi looks stunning, but I’m not sure how practical it is with children. Same with Balos, gorgeous, but is the hike or boat ride too much for younger kids?

If anyone has specific beach recommendations, safe swimming spots, or even family-friendly towns to base ourselves in, I’d really appreciate it. Any firsthand experiences or tips are welcome!

I’ll be spending some time in Chania soon and would love recommendations for the best swimming beaches nearby. I’ve read about Elafonissi and Balos, but they both seem like day trips rather than places you can just wander to for a morning swim. I’m curious if there are any great beaches closer to town, something with clear water, easy access, and maybe a little taverna or café nearby for lunch afterward.

Some people mention Agii Apostoli or Chrissi Akti as local favorites, but I’d love to hear real experiences. Are they calm enough for relaxed swimming, or are there better spots just outside the city? I’m not looking for nightlife, just a beautiful, clean place to swim and unwind for a few hours. Ferry from Athens to Crete Question

I might be going to Crete this summer and I am thinking about taking the overnight ferry from Piraeus instead of flying. I’ve never taken a long ferry ride in Greece before, so I’d love some advice from people who’ve done it.

Is it worth booking a cabin, or are the airplane-style seats comfortable enough for a night crossing? I’ve heard mixed things. Also, how early should I arrive at the port—especially if I’m traveling as a foot passenger?

I’m also curious about which ferry company people prefer—Anek, Blue Star, Minoan? Are there big differences in comfort, cleanliness, or punctuality?

I’ll be heading to either Heraklion or Chania, still deciding. If you’ve done both routes, is one better than the other in terms of views, schedule, or overall experience?

Tips for Visiting Rethymno?

Hey everyone! I’ll be spending some time in Chania this summer and I’m trying to decide whether Rethymno is worth a few nights or if it’s better as a day trip. I’ve heard the Old Town is beautiful and the Venetian architecture is super charming, but I’m wondering what else there is to do there beyond strolling and having a nice meal. Are there beaches nearby that are worth visiting? Any great local tavernas, museums, or cultural spots? I love history, food, and just soaking up the vibe of a place, but I also don’t want to stretch myself too thin if it’s best experienced in a day.

If anyone has tips, personal experiences, or hidden gem recommendations for Rethymno, I’d love to hear them! Would you recommend staying a couple nights, or is a day trip enough if I'm already based in Chania? Not sure there's enough to do here.
