I might go to Mykonos next year, and the only thing giving me pause is the wind. I know the island is famous for the meltemi, but I keep reading completely different opinions about when it’s at its strongest. Some people say July is brutal, others say August is worse, and a few claim June can surprise you too.

For those of you who’ve been to Mykonos multiple times — or who go every summer — which month have you personally experienced as the windiest? I don’t mind a breeze, but I do want a trip where I can actually enjoy the beaches without getting sandblasted every five minutes.

Is there a month where the meltemi is consistently the strongest, or is it totally unpredictable year to year? Would love to hear your experiences and what you’d recommend!

Renting a Scooter or ATV in Mykonos?

I’m considering a trip to Mykonos next summer and I’ve been doing some research on how people usually get around the island. I keep coming across advice about renting scooters or ATVs, and I’m a little torn. On one hand, it sounds like such a fun way to explore the beaches and villages, and it seems more flexible than relying on buses or expensive taxis. On the other hand, I’ve also read that the roads can be steep, narrow, and a little dangerous, especially if you’re not used to driving scooters.

I’ve only driven a scooter once while traveling, and it was fine, but I’m not sure how I’d feel in Mykonos traffic. ATVs seem like they might feel sturdier, but maybe they’re harder to park?

For those of you who’ve been to Mykonos: did you rent a scooter, ATV, or something else? What would you recommend for a first-timer?

Best viewpoints in Mykonos?

I’m in the early stages of planning a possible trip to Mykonos and have started researching the best viewpoints on the island. I know about the classic sunset spot near the windmills and Little Venice, but I’m wondering what other viewpoints are worth seeking out, especially ones that aren’t completely packed with crowds.

Are there any higher lookouts, coastal cliffs, quiet hills, or hidden spots where you can really take in the sea and the whitewashed buildings from above? I’d love both sunrise and sunset recommendations, whether they’re easy to reach or require a bit of walking or driving.

Also curious if any viewpoints are near beaches, chapels, or small tavernas where you can linger and enjoy the view longer.

If you’ve been to Mykonos, what viewpoint left the strongest impression on you?

Snorkeling in Mykonos Tips?

I’m thinking about visiting Mykonos next summer, likely in mid-July, and while I know the island is famous for its nightlife, that’s not really my scene. I’m more interested in outdoor activities, and snorkeling is high on my list.

Has anyone here gone snorkeling in Mykonos? Are there particular beaches or coves that are especially good for clear water and interesting marine life? I’ve read that some of the quieter beaches might have better conditions than the busy party spots, but I’m not sure which ones are worth prioritizing.

Do most people rent gear on the island, or is it better to bring your own mask and fins? Also, are there guided snorkeling tours that combine boat trips to less accessible areas?

Family-Friendly Foods to Try in Mykonos?

We’re considering adding Mykonos to our upcoming Greece trip and I’m curious about the food scene — especially when it comes to local dishes that are family-friendly. I know Mykonos has a reputation for high-end dining and nightlife, but we’ll be traveling with kids, so we’re hoping to experience some of the island’s traditional flavors in a more low-key, welcoming way.

Are there specific Mykonian or Cycladic dishes we should look for that tend to go over well with children? Maybe a favorite cheese, pie, or dessert that’s a local specialty but still kid-approved?
