When many people think of travelling to Greece for history, they may think of Athens or Crete… but I'm here to tell you that Rhodes is one of the best places to visit if you love history. The island is full of mediaeval history and has some of the most beautiful and old mediaeval architecture in all of Greece. Some of the best places to explore this history are Ancient Kamiros, Palace of the Grand Master, and the archeological museum of Rhodes.

Rhodes is a great place for history lovers because there's not only an Ancient History, like at the Acropolis at Lindos, but there's also the Medieval history at the Palace of the Grandmaster. It's so cool, I love learning about it.

I totally agree with this - I have enjoyed my time learning about the history of Rhodes. I made it to Kamiros and thought the ancient site was so interesting! One of the reasons why I like Rhodes so much is also because of the Medieval history.

Yes, definitely a great place for mediaeval history! Something that many people don't expect to see in Greece. Most people think that the history is all going to be focussed on ancient Greece.

Taking a boat trip around Rhodes?

Has anyone ever taken a boat trip around the island of Rhodes?

From what I've researched, there are a plethora of options, from luxurious yachts to quaint sailing boats, each promising an unforgettable journey across the Aegean Sea. 🌊

What I'm Looking For:

  • Recommendations for boat tour companies you trust.
  • Tips on hidden gems and must-see spots along the coastline or nearby islets.
  • Any advice on the best time of day or year for smooth sailing.
  • Insights on what to bring apart from the obvious (sunscreen, hat, camera—you get the drift).
Anything you can help me with is very much appreciated!

Best Historical Landmarks to See in Rhodes

I am working on planning a trip to Rhodes and am trying to prioritize which ones I should see. I've come up with a list. Did I miss anything? Realistically, I might only have time to see about 5 places, but I want more on the list than I can see so I can decide what seems the most interesting to me.

Here's what I have:
  1. Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes
  2. Rhodes Old Town Walls
  3. Acropolis of Lindos
  4. Street of the Knights
  5. Archaeological Museum of Rhodes
  6. Castle of Monolithos
  7. Kallithea Springs
  8. Ancient Kamiros
  9. Ancient Ialysos
  10. Ancient Kameiros

Are there festivals in the summer in Rhodes?

I’m planning a trip to Rhodes, Greece, and I've heard that the island is not just about stunning beaches and breathtaking landscapes, but it’s also rich in culture and offers a variety of festivals throughout the year. I’m really excited about the possibility of aligning my visit with one of these cultural events!

Can anyone share recommendations for festivals in Rhodes? I’m interested in anything from traditional Greek celebrations to music, art, and food festivals. Anything that will allow me to soak in the local culture and make my trip even more memorable.

I usually just "see the sites" when I am in Greece. This is my second time on Rhodes, so now I am looking for something different to do.

Honeymoon in Rhodes?

I have to help someone plan a honeymoon in Rhodes. It can be a romantic place, especially if you love history.

I need some help, though, figuring some things out since I have only ever been here with my family. Where would you stay? What would you eat? What would you do?

Any advice you have would be great - I can think of plenty of things to see and do, and places to eat, but I've never thought about them from a romantic perspective.
Share and discuss your Rhodes photos, questions and experiences!
