Athens has some great nightlife!! There are so many options to choose from, and it really depends on what you're looking for. My personal favourites are rooftop bars that overlook the Parthenon, you can find most of these in Thissio. But many local Athenians would say that these spots are very touristy and not as fun Exarchia and Gazi for example. If you're interested in going to bars that are by the beach, but still pretty close to the city I recommend Gylfada. Psiri it's also a very trendy neighbourhood that is popular amongst the locals! Try them out and let me know what you think!

Rooftop bars are definitely a favorite of mine in Athens. Besides Thissio, Exarchia, and Gazi, does anyone know any others? For the next time I am in Athens?

Petroupoli, peristeri, Bournazi...

Thisseio is pretty touristy but the views are great, so I like to go from time to time.

Check Monastiraki square. Rooftop bars of "360 Degrees" and "A for Athens" are my favorites.

I can make some suggestions in Exarcheia because I know that area better.

For a while my favourite cocktail bar was Revolt Street Bar on Koletti but more recently I have been going to the bar next door called Sepia. The owner is a little bit more down to earth and the cocktails are STRONG!

A little bit further up on Emmanouil Benaki street, between Andrea Metaxa and Arachovis are a number of bistro bars where you can get raki, rakoumelo and all the other Greek spirits. I have been known to get paralytic at Tzeremes on the odd occassion!

Valtetsiou also has quite a few more up market bistro bars that are open earlier in the day and are great to relax at, read a book, do some writing and watch the world go by. Chartes is a popular one and I do frequent that from time to time.

There are lots of other bars that are even more popular but Exarcheia is all about walking around and discovering as many local bars are not even on social media.

These are all some great suggestions, thank you so much! I love the idea of walking around Exarcheia and checking out the other suggestions, as well. Thanks again for your input.

Thank you all for the suggestions!! I’m planning to visit Athens in 2 weeks and I'm in search of recommendations for what to visit! I was in Greece only once and in childhood, when I was around 7 years, so I remember nothing. I’m a fan of Korean bar culture, so I’m looking for ones with affordable prices in Athens too! If you would ever visit Korea, I strongly recommend you staying at 강남풀싸롱 for evening, the coziest place I was at! Also what sightseeing attractions would you recommend for a tourist in Athens? I’ve already got a list where to spend my evening, but what about the day?

Athens Nightlife Questions

I'm currently planning a trip to Athens, Greece, and I've heard so much about the nightlife there. I know that there is great nightlife here, I've just never done it.

Given the vast array of options, I'm reaching out to this community for personal recommendations and insights. What are your favorite nightlife spots in Athens? I'm interested in hearing about places that offer unique experiences, whether it's a bar, club, etc.

If you've had an unforgettable night out in Athens, please share:
  • Name of the place
  • What makes it stand out (music, drinks, crowd, view, etc.)
  • Any tips for newcomers (like dress code)
Also, if there are any must-know cultural etiquettes or tips for enjoying Athens' nightlife responsibly, I'd appreciate learning about those as well.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Best shopping in Athens?

I'm planning a trip to Athens and I'm a bit of a shopaholic. I want to make the most of my time there and experience the best shopping the city has to offer.

From what I've heard, Athens is a treasure trove of markets, boutiques, and shops - but I'd really appreciate some local or experienced insights.

Could anyone recommend:
  • The best areas for unique, local finds?
  • Any specific stores known for quality Greek goods?
  • Tips for navigating the markets?
I've only done historical things in Athens and visited friends. I have never taken the time to shop, but I will have plenty of time in Athens over the summer.

Should you come to Athens in the winter?

I have never been to Greece in winter and I was considering it. I found this video - it was very informative! Thought I'd share:

Share and discuss your Athens photos, questions and experiences!
