What are some great spots to listen to traditional Greek music in downtown Athens? I love bouzouki especially, and would love to see some talented musicians performing it live. Have any of you been to any rebetathika or restaurants with live music that would have some performances to listen to? Thanks everyone!

If you’re staying right in Central Athens near The Plaka, Cafe Kapnikarea (off Ermou St.) has live Rembetika music from 2:30 in the afternoon and again from 8 - 11 at night. It’s not a fancy place like the late night beachfront clubs, but it’s reasonably priced. You can have drinks & mezes or dinner - all delicious. If you’re lucky, you can even join the dancing on pedestrian Ermou Street. Family-owned for many years, it’s a little hidden gem!

I love the glyfada area, I’ve been to many great outdoor restaurants there.

I agree, Glyfada is great! There is bouzouki music all around, but it is hard to plan. Every time I try to plan, I can't find anything, but I've stumbled on some great music by chance. I have found bouzouki music in Glyfada at one of the restaurants!

Do any pop you know if any of these are good?

The Church of the Holy Apostles – This Byzantine church dates back to the 10th century and is considered one of the best-preserved examples of Byzantine architecture in Greece.

St. Irene’s Church – St. Irene’s Church is located in the heart of Athens and is considered one of the oldest Byzantine churches in the city.

Visiting Mount Lycabettus Question

I have never been to Mount Lycabettus, although I've been to Athens a handful of times - it just never came up to go here.

Here are some questions I have:

A few specific questions I have include:
  • What's the best time of day to visit Mount Lycabettus? Is it good at sunset?
  • Are there any hiking trails that you'd recommend?
  • How difficult is the trek up the hill? Is it suitable for beginners or those not used to hiking?
  • Is the funicular railway worth the ride, or is it better to walk?
  • Are there any facilities (like cafes or restrooms) available at the top or along the way?
  • Do you have any safety tips or things to watch out for?
Thanks in advance!

Is the Benaki Museum in Athens Worth Visiting?

I'm planning a trip to Athens and compiling a list of must-see places. I came across the Benaki Museum, and it caught my interest. From what I've gathered, it seems like a place rich in Greek history and culture, housing a diverse collection that spans the ages.

However, I'm trying to manage my time in Athens effectively since there's so much to see and do. For those who have visited the Benaki Museum, would you say it's a worthwhile addition to my itinerary? I'm particularly keen on understanding if its collections are uniquely representative of Greek heritage in ways that other museums in the city might not offer.

I'd love to hear about personal experiences, favorite exhibits, or even tips for visiting (best times to go, any particular tours, etc.). Your feedback will be immensely valuable in helping me decide!

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and insights.
