(Los Angeles, California, United States) – The Greek Festival in Los Angeles, California is scheduled to take place from October 7, 2016 to October 9, 2016 at the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles on Normandie Avenue. The festival will be taking place on the grounds of the cathedral. This is the 18th year that the festival will be taking place, and it is a great way to bring the Greek community in the area together with other people from all over the Los Angeles area.
This festival will not only feature elements from the Greek culture, such as the food, music, and traditional dances, but there will also be a few celebrity guests appearances who all come from the area’s Greek-American community. These include Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks, Wilson’s husband, Nia Vardolos, from My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Ian Gomez, Vardalos’s husband.
One of the real highlights of the festival, however, is definitely the food! Festival volunteers have been busy preparing the menu for the past few months. Offerings include taramosalata, tzatziki, Greek salad, tiropita, dolmades, souvlaki, and gyros. Their menu is extensive, and people can enjoy their food at the festival or get it to go. Some people opt to do both so that the can enjoy the delicious food at home after the festival is over. There are also traditional desserts on the menu, such as baklava, kataifi, and loukoumades. There will also be live Greek music, dancing, and a Greek marketplace selling Greek goods. There will also be tours of the cathedral throughout the festival.
Tickets to the event are $5 for adults and children under 12 are free. However, tickets for adults and children are both free on October 7, the opening day of the festival. All proceeds from the festival will benefit the Saint Sophia Cathedral to help them meet their expenses throughout the coming year.
