(Wheeling, West Virginia, United States) – The Greek Festival in Wheeling, West Virginia will take place this week from Wednesday, July 27, 2016 to Saturday, July 30, 2016. This annual event lasts for four days and will be held on the grounds of the St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church. This is a great community event where people can enjoy the Greek culture by eating Greek food, dancing, participating the events, and shopping at the Greek marketplace. All the proceeds fro them the event will benefit the church and help the parish meet its expenses. Not only that, but event is a great way to bring people together who are part of the Greek community in the area and who simply like to experience all things Greek!
Although there are plenty of things to do at the festival that are related to the Greek culture, one of the highlights is certainly the food. Festival volunteers have been getting ready for the festival for the past few months and the food has been a major part of those preparations. There are two basic areas will people can enjoy their food. The first is at the indoor location, where gourmet specialties such as roasted chicken, fish, lamb, and pastitsio will be served.
There is also an outdoor area called the “Tavern” where delicious outdoor and grilled foods, such as gyros, Greek-style fires, and calamari will be served – just like in a Taverna in Greece! If you’re looking for something sweet, there will also be Greek pastries such as baklava and koulourakia served up. You can also wash all this down with various beverages such as Greek coffee, beer, and sodas.
There are also plenty of other activities to enjoy at this festival, as well, such as a youth tent, a Greek music tent, and even church tours. Saint John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church is located at 2215 Chapline Street in Wheeling, WV.
