(Libertyville, Illinois, United States) – The Lake County Greek Festival at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Libertyville, Illinois will take place this weekend from July 9, 2016 to July 11, 2016 from 11 AM to 11 PM on all three days. For people in the community, this festival gives people a chance to experience all things Greek! Festival guests can eat authentic Greek cuisine prepared by hand by festival guests, listen to live Greek music performed by a local band, watch the traditional folk dancers, learn how to Greek dance, and shop for Greek goods, such as jewelry, books, and food, from some of the vendors. There will also be events and games geared towards children!
As you can see, there are many things you can do at this festival to celebrate the Greek culture. However, for most of the festival goers, the real highlight is the food! Festival guests will be able to enjoy specialty dishes such as roasted leg of lamb, Greek-style chicken, pastitsio, souvlaki, gyros, and much more. There will also be plenty of Greek pastries to enjoy such as loukoumades and baklava. Greek beer, Greek wine, and even Greek cocktails will also be served. You can either enjoy your food at the festival or order it for take out. There will also be a drive through service available from 4 PM to 7 PM on all three days of the festival.
The proceeds of festival will benefit the Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Admission and parking are both free. The event will take place rain or shine underneath the tent and inside the church. Besides enjoying the festivities, it is also possible to visit the church and even take a tour to learn about the parish, Greek community, and the Orthodox faith.
