I know that it was closed because of some fires but I'm not sure if its open again. Does anyone know?

We have not heard from anyone in the community that it is closed and we did not see anything in the news, I would try reaching out to the local tourism bureau and ask before making your trip! 
Regardless of active fires it has been closing at times during summer months for several years now. I would think it should be open from now on.
If you haven't been there before, you can drive all the way to the telecommunication tower and the view is amazing on a clear day.

I'm planning an upcoming trip to the beautiful island of Kefalonia and I've heard quite a bit about the turtles that can be seen around the island.
