I'm planning on taking a day trip from Thessaloniki to Meteora but I'm scared I'm going to be exhausted for the drive back. How long does it take to walk up?

When I climbed it took me about 45 minutes

It took me about an hour but it can take longer depending on how many breaks you take. I recommend you don't go during the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest point. It will be way too hot and you will get dehydrated

Meteora is an amazing place; I would say it that it is not very well known to foreigners as it is not close to the most famous sea-side destinations. Enjoy:

I don’t recommend seeing all the monastery in one day . go early in the morning depending on the ones you visit they are not long to walk up some are very quick from main Entrance. My family is from there and we go every year to see them.

Also one day is not enough to visit all monestary and then drive back to Thessaloniki .

What do you suggest? Are there any hotels near the monastery to stay for two days?

Look for hotels in Kalambaka, it's a xorio at the base. You can also find airbnb's there.

There's a lot to see here. I agree that you should stay more than one day, or at least overnight, so you can don't get too exhausted for the drive back.

Visiting Aristotelous Square Question

I will be in Thessaloniki staying near Aristotelous Square. If anyone familiar with the area could advise on:
  • Best cafes and eateries
  • Hidden gems or lesser-known spots
  • Any cultural/historical points of interest
  • Tips on navigating the square
  • Event schedules or seasonal recommendations
Thanks in advance! Grateful for any advice you can give. I will just be there for a few days. I don't know much about Thessaloniki.

New Year's Celebration in Thessaloniki?

Does anyone know what is going on in Thessaloniki for New Year's? There's a chance I could be in the city this year during it and I want to get a feel for what to expect. I went to Greece to visit some family over Christmas.

I heard that they light fireworks at midnight somewhere? Is this true? I'll be visiting some people, so I am assuming they know what is going on, but I want to have a general feel for it.

Some cities have a big celebration outside. I didn't know if Thessaloniki was one of those places.

Visiting the Museum for Macedonian Struggle in Thessaloniki?

I'm planning a trip to Thessaloniki soon and I've heard a lot about the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle. It seems like a place with rich historical significance and I'm keen on exploring more about the region's history through this museum. I would appreciate any advice or insights from those who have visited or are familiar with the museum.

What do you think, is this worth visiting? It has a personal significance for me, as well as an historical one. I have a good friend who is passionate about this cause.

Good markets to visit in Thessaloniki?

I'm planning a visit to Thessaloniki soon, and I'm really keen on exploring the local markets there. I've heard that the city is rich in history and culture, and I believe that visiting local markets is one of the best ways to immerse oneself in the local atmosphere and perhaps find some unique items to bring back home.

Does anyone have recommendations for markets in Thessaloniki that are worth visiting? I'm interested in anything from food markets where I can taste local delicacies, to flea markets where I might find interesting antiques or crafts. Also, if you have any tips on the best days and times to visit, as well as what I might expect in terms of items available and price ranges, that would be incredibly helpful!

Looking forward to your suggestions and thank you in advance for sharing your insights!

Food Specialties of Thessaloniki?

I am looking into regional cuisines in Greece and I am actually going to Thessaloniki at some point this year to visit some people. What are some unique dishes, and maybe concepts, that may the culinary food scene here unique?

From my initial research, I understand that Thessaloniki is known for its vibrant markets, exceptional seafood, and sweet treats. However, I'm eager to dig deeper and explore the authentic local specialties that this city has to offer. I believe that the best way to experience a new culture is.

What are some dishes I should look out for? Or maybe some ingredients, too?
