Now that the holidays are behind me, I am starting to think about traveling to Greece in 2023. I want to visit a place I never have before, and I am thinking that Kefalonia might be a great place to explore. I would like to be on the island during when the sea turtles are on the beaches laying there eggs - I always loved wildlife and it seems fascinating. How long in the season? It is maybe a month? If so, would it make sense to visit in June?

So, I want to go to Greece in the summer so I can spend a lot of time on the beach. I know, I can go throughout the summer and into at least the early fall and still have great beach weather, but June works out the best for my schedule and I love taking a vacation around that time.

Besides the turtles and beaches, what else do you guys recommend?

This may help

Depends on how long you are staying on the island. Myrtos beach has to be on the top of your list. Fiskardo is another, while you are there have lunch at Tasias by the sea. Cave Melissani near Sami. St Georges Castle is interesting and the views are fantastic. Top of mount Ainos if Authorities allow in summer. If you are religious visit St Gerasimos church ( even if you are not ). Assos is another interesting place to go. Xi beach is another. I don't know where you intend to stay but if you go to Kaminia for the turtles go to Katelios for Lunch or dinner. If you like fish, Captain Jerry is the best. If you are near Poros you can go on a day trip to Ithaki and or Navagio in Zakynthos.

I have heard great things about some of those places you mentioned. I want to be able to do the island justice - so I am thing at least ten days. I would love to stay longer, though.

I agree that it depends on when you want to visit! I would stay at least 10 days - especially if you want to do a variety of things. One could spend the whole day at beach, for example, and there are many beaches to see. It also depends on what you want to do while there.

I want to lie on a sandy beach and snorkel

Traveling to Kefalonia sounds like a fantastic idea for your summer getaway. The nesting season generally lasts for a few months, so you'll have a good chance of catching this fascinating wildlife phenomenon during your trip. Explore the picturesque villages and charming towns scattered across the island. Argostoli, the capital, is worth a visit with its lively waterfront and excellent dining options. If you're looking for another beach destination, consider Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica. You can find more information about the resort and activities at sicomono.com. It's known for its beautiful beaches and abundant wildlife.

Best beaches in Kefalonia for families?

I'm in the process of planning what I hope to be an unforgettable family vacation to the beautiful island of Kefalonia. With its stunning landscapes and inviting sea, I can't think of a better place to spend quality time with the family.

However, as we all know, not all beaches are created equal, especially when it comes to finding spots that are both beautiful and suitable for families. Factors like gentle waves, shallow waters, accessibility, and nearby facilities (such as restrooms and places to eat) can make all the difference in ensuring a stress-free and enjoyable day at the beach for both parents and kids.

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations you might have for beaches that fit this bill. Our family loves a mix of adventures and relaxation, so suggestions for beaches with a bit of both would be fantastic. Are there any particular spots that have captured your heart due to their beauty, safety, and family-friendly amenities?

Always wanted to see the turtles in Kefalonia...

I have a bucket list of going to Kefalonia while the turtles are on the beaches. I love turtles and this seems like a really beautiful thing.

I found this video that talks about them. It's not quite seeing them in person, but it was informative. Thought I'd share:

Local cuisine to try in Kefalonia?

I believe that one of the best ways to experience a new place is through its food, as it tells so much about its culture and traditions.

I've heard that Kefalonia boasts a vibrant culinary scene, with a variety of dishes that are as stunning as the island's landscapes. From fresh seafood to delightful sweets, I'm looking forward to tasting everything this gem in the Ionian Sea has to offer.

That being said, I would love to get your recommendations on the must-try local dishes and beverages in Kefalonia. Are there any particular restaurants, tavernas, or street food spots that left an impression on you? Additionally, if there are any local markets or food festivals that I should not miss, please do share!

Your insights will be incredibly helpful in crafting my culinary itinerary and ensuring I don't miss out on any great food. Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences and tips!

Has anyone visited Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia?

I'm planning a trip to Kefalonia and have heard a lot of great things about Myrtos Beach.

Has anyone on this forum been there? I'm interested in knowing:
  • The best time of day to visit
  • Tips for parking and accessibility
  • Recommendations for nearby local eateries
  • Any must-know tips for first-time visitors (like peak times to avoid, if it's suitable for kids, etc.)
Also, if you have any suggestions for other activities or attractions nearby that are worth exploring, I'd love to hear about those too!

What to do in Kefalonia with family?

I'm currently planning a family trip to the stunning island of Kefalonia and would love your insights. We're a large family and we're all going. My sister has two kids - one is 12 and the other is 9. We are also traveling with my parents.

From our initial research, we know that Kefalonia boasts beautiful beaches, fascinating caves, and picturesque villages. However, we want to ensure our trip is as memorable for our children as it is for us.

Could anyone recommend:
  • Family-friendly beaches with shallow waters and fun activities?
  • Cultural or historical sites that are engaging for children?
  • Places to see wildlife or participate in outdoor adventures suitable for young ones?
  • Any local eateries that are great for families, perhaps with play areas or menus catered to kids?
We're also open to any tips on getting around the island with children, as we're debating between renting a car or relying on public transport.

Thanks!
