Alex Mavradis' photography goes back to the early 1960's and picked up the passion from his father George Mavradis who develoed his photographs in the darkroom he built in his basement. Alexs' first camera was a Kodak Instamatic given to him by his aunt and the rest is history.

While growing up Alex learned to use many of the features built into his father's dark room and assisted him on many of the developing techniques from the enlargemnet, dodging and burning to setting the photographs to various sizes from 3x5 to 8x10.

Alex aquired two of his fathers' Exactas with lenses that were manufactured in East Germany after WWII. Camers inscription state, "Manufactured in Russia Occupied East Germany"

Later during college the Canon AEI was the sole camera Alex used until his purchase of Nikon cameras, Caumet medium format bellows camera, Bronica, Mamaya Medium format C330 eye level single reflex lens camera, Mamaya medium format rangefinder camera, and Nikons from the F90S, F5, D100, D200, D810 currently the D850, D810 and the Z7 mirrorless camera.

Early on Alex photographed scenic and still photography later moving on to portaits, event photography, architectural and interior photography, weddings. During this period to the present Alex has processed his works in the digital darkroom using mostly Photoshop. He prefers photogrphing in the original RAW or Nikon NEFF file format and converting those into PDF, JPEG and TIFF digitl formats.

Alex has exhibited some of his works in art galleries and plans to do more in the coming months (2021).

For nearly thirty years Alex has seen the chages in Boston through the lens with severla lenses for the right occasison. Some single reflex enses and small to large zoom lenses making phootgraphy easier in a fast paced environment such as a wedding, ourdoor or indoor event or sports photography.

Alex Mavradis can be described as a self taught student of photography to pick up needed techniques for lighting and composition. THis knowledge helped tremendously in photography for publication, whether newspaper, magazines and the internet.

Today, Alex concentrates on event photography such as weddings, or formal events of which he has photographed events up to 500 for a wedding or formal event where he likes to take control by not having assistants.

Alex Mavradis has belonged to a few photographic organizations over the years and is currently a member of the National Press Photographer Association.

Works by Alex MAvradis have been publshed in the Boston Globe, Greek/American publications and online newspapers. He has photographed for Science orgnizations, environmental organizations, churches and others whe needed.

The work of a photographer has to be consistant, ad worthy of publication in capturing the moment nd the emotions of the participants, whether in set envronments or photojournalistic settings. It is not only a passion and a career but also a necessity today when everyone has a camera on their phone but can't capture the right moment.
