Check out this beautiful view from Athens

They were taken from Strefi Hill in Exarcheia. It's a great vantage point to take photos of both Lycavitos and the Acropolis.

I do love Athens. Here are a few photos from my trip this year.

Milos island is becoming more popular than ever!

Alternatively, if you want to go the Santorini or Mykonos, go during the shoulder periods. June is probably the best month - not so many tourists but still good weather.

"Remember When" is a great Greek family tv show!

No, I saw an ad for it on Greek TV but I don't know when it is going to be released. I think the most likely will be after Greeks come back from their holidays. Probably Sep/Oct.

"Remember When" is a great Greek family tv show!

This is my favourite Greek TV Series. I like how you get to see how they lived in Athens in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Also, the way they introduce historical events with actual TV reels through the black & white TV that the family owns is very clever. The third series is soon to be released and I'm...

Flyff Universe is now available on PC and smartphone

What does this have to do with Athens?

Milos island is becoming more popular than ever!

I'm planning to go there next year. I just want to get on a ferry boat and just island hop for a few weeks.

    The Current Greek Mythology?

It's true that small events such as a person riding into a town on a donkey or even what that person did and said at various stages of their lives cannot be archaeologically verified. The bible, however, mentions many events such as the Jews working as slaves in Egypt and the subsequent mass...

    Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Acropolis

True. I actually was in the "cheapest" seats at 20 euro and the proximity to the stage was perfect. Also with the acoustics, there was no electronic amplification but everything could be heard very clearly.

    Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Acropolis

Now hear me out. I usually go to see a performance at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus theatre every time I visit Athens. A few times I have seen operas there. In fact, I have only been to operas at this theatre, having never been to an opera at any other time in my life. I have to say it is an...

Tips for taking taxis in Athens!

Hey, this is all really good information for living and traveling in Athens. I checked the taxi-calculator against the Uber estimate and they were pretty close (11.40 vs 12.25). You can use Uber's global estimator here: Uber Estimate

    The Current Greek Mythology?

No, I haven't read anything by James Tabor but I have read the New Testament 3 times and large swathes of the Old Testament. Many of the stories in them are apocryphal and to Professor Stavrakopoulou's point, they actually are not archaeologically verifiable. Many of the "scholars" in this field...

    My favourite Athens suburb

I just love Exarcheia and these videos give a great insight into its unique and colourful nature.

    The Current Greek Mythology?

So recently I have been really enjoying watching videos from Professor Fransesca Stavracopoulou and I wanted to share one of my favourite videos on youtube. She is a professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Religion at the University of Exeter. She examines the bible from a professional...

Greek Government Tradition of not being helpful, so how does one move ahead?

You need μέσον. Someone on the "inside" that can help fast track things. This is the only way I was able to get my passport from the Greek embassy in Melbourne many years ago. But I have since realised that I don't need a Greek passport. I use by Australian passport to get to Greece and from...

You should avoid these areas in Greece during demonstrations

Ah yes, my Athenian friend told me not to go to the Exarcheia square late at night. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I was there at 3am the previous night. But anyhow, I was last there in 2019 and the current government and city mayor have vowed to "clean it up". I have noticed that...

You should avoid these areas in Greece during demonstrations

Yep, I definitely agree with that. All tourists should especially stay away from Exarcheia because that's where I live and I don't want any of those foreigners around! ;)

"Cloudy Sunday" or "Ouzeri Tsitsanis" is a fantastic Greek film about love during Nazi occupation

I saw it in Melbourne, Australia. It may have been part of the Greek Film Festival here, I can't remember. I'm sure they would have shown it in Greece but I don't know.

Why is Ancient Greece the most famous period of history

The ancient Greek political, military, theatre, arts, literary, medical, scientific and mathematical processes are the basis for the "western liberal democratic" world that many of us live in. I'm sure if we were born in China or India we would be taught about the ancient Chinese and Indian...
