What time of the year is the best to visit Athens?

Personally, I think June is a good month to visit. Not too hot and it's quite busy without being overcrowded (maybe the touristy areas are still quite busy). To be honest my daughter went in the middle of winter (Dec/Jan) and she said there were more activities/gigs/things to do at that time...

10 secret corners of Greece for your next summer holiday!

I'm thinking of going to Ikaria this year. Our Athenian friends recommend Milos. I went to Naxos some years ago and loved swimming in the seas below the temple of Apollo. All these islands are magical. You truly feel like you are living in the land of the gods.

A look at street art in Athens

I totally agree with the previous 2 comments. The street art in Psirri is more refined and organised in general. The street art in Exarcheia (my favourite suburb) is raw and very direct, political, social commentary. I love just walking down random streets in Exarcheia checking out the street art.

Best theatres in Athens to watch lives plays

I haven't seen a play at Epidavros because it is not easy to get to from Athens. I would very much like to one day though.

Best theatres in Athens to watch lives plays

I have seen a number of theatre and opera productions at Ωδείο Ηρώδου του Αττικού. I image I am living 2,000 years ago and imagine who has come to this theatre to watch a performance.

How do I get to my hotel from the Santorini ferry port?

I just took a taxi. Also, even though the hotel might not have transport, you can ask them - they are usually very helpful and forthcoming with information.

This is the stunning view from Lycabettus hill in Athens, Greece!

Absolutely agree! When in Athens, I stay at accommodation 5mins walk from Lycabettus. My partner and I start our day by climbing up the hill in the morning for our daily exercise. It's more rewarding walking up as you get better views along the way than with the cable car. There is also another...

What is the difference between the Greek president and prime minister?

I'm by no means a political expert but I do live in a country with a similar political system. In Australia, we have a "head of state" who is called the Governor General (equivalent to Greece's President) and our Prime Minister is basically a leader of one of the political parties. The GG tends...

What do you think? Do Greeks like Greece?

I love Easy Greek, they ask great questions of mainly Athenians but other Greeks too. With regards to this specific video, I'm not surprised by any of the answers. Local Greeks would experience the political and economic situation in Greece more intensely than Greeks living overseas. I have...

    Beautiful song by Melina Merkouri

Melina is an amazing woman who was not only an actress and singer but a formidable political participant in Greece. She was involved with PASOK from the start and as Cultural and Sports Minister, achieved many successes and fought hard for the return of the Parthenon Marbles. She also introduced...

Exarcheia - a guide to my favourite Athenian suburb

Some time ago a colleague of mine traveled to Athens and asked me for some recommendations for Exarcheia and I put this guide together for him. There is so much more to Exarcheia than what I have put together below but it gives a little inkling of how amazing this suburb is. The real beauty of...

What are your favorite Greek news websites?

For serious Greek TV news, i go to ERT news. For good news with a little trashy gossip and a little less formal language, I like Star TV News. Both of these don't seem to be geoblocked as I watch them from Australia.

I just made loukoumades with honey and walnuts!

Definitely the best way to make loukoumades! I always have them with honey and walnuts at home. I use the honey from my father's beehives. ?

Check out “Worlds Apart,” a movie about the economic crisis in Greece

Beautiful movie. I watched it last year and thought it showed different perspectives very well.

Agries Melisses is a fantastic Greek tv show about the military occupation

Thanks for letting us know what this is all about. I thought this was more of a soapie so I wasn't too interested in it. Based on your recommendation I will start watching it.

Monastiraki and Plaka are the best areas of Athens hands down!

Άμα Λάχει is a great restaurant. It is located in an old school and the menu is very modern Greek meze style food. Highly recommended. Γιάντες is good but not one of my favourite restaurants in the area. I think there are many better choices although my wife's cousin really enjoyed the food...

Monastiraki and Plaka are the best areas of Athens hands down!

It was probably around June, maybe early July. It's just busy all year around apparently especially at that time of day. Athens is most crowded with Athenians outside of August and most crowded with tourists during August. In my opinion, August is not a good month to visit Athens. Many shops...

Monastiraki and Plaka are the best areas of Athens hands down!

@efhernandez_ I've been to that restaurant, Άμα Λάχει, a number of times but once my wife and I went there with her cousin and his partner. Firstly, they organised to meet up with us for dinner at 9pm (my wife wasn't happy about the time) but they ended up turning up to our apartment at 9:30pm...

Monastiraki and Plaka are the best areas of Athens hands down!

@ellinasgolfer0320 So true. The touristy areas are the worst but if you really look you can find some gems. These are usually the ones that look like the olden day restaurants with not too many tourists in them. They are much harder to find but certainly there if you want to look around for them...
