My cousin and I are going to be visiting Mykonos this summer and are wondering if you have any youth hostels that you have been to that you recommend. We love to meet new people when travelling, especially from all around the world! It always seems like Greece is the best place to make friends...What has your experience been?

One of the most popular ones in Mykonos is called Paraga Beach Hostel & Camping. Many hostels are campsites or have campsites in addition to hostel accommodation. In Greece, that's usually how University students will travel the islands, through camping or RV's. There aren't too too many hostels although you can find super cheap (usually run down) hotels for 40 euros a night.

A very happening place... Live DJs, lots of different kinds of food and BBQ,
Also Paraga beach camping as mentioned behind Paradise Beach.... different level of accomodation, much smaller and nice, fantastic beach front location, cool area!

Who said those days are over?....Siga!!!...On the contrary.... after we relocated from Mykonos we went for a short holiday and I didn't want to down memory lane in Kalafatis so we stayed at Paraga beach camping....and guess what?.....we met older generations like us travelling with their sons and daughters staying in wooden huts ....so basic and minimal,it was heavenly, just a mattress and a small fan!...and all mingling and having a good time, very nice atmosphere and had sleep less nights too!!😁....forgot how noisy the Wow Wow dogoo dogoo music sounded like!!.....and I should know...I organised the MTV Mediterranean Dance Tour with 40 Killowat sound systems at Hard Rock Café ...so don't give up on those days, bring them back....oh I nearly forgot to say.....on the Paradise Beach there is a beach bar....in one corner they had a mountain of empty champagne bottles only on display....I have never seen so many empty champagne bottles in my life before...we are talking Moët,Vive Cliqout, Pommery, Crystal and some 10 litres empties as well😁...I think the young ones had a roaring times.....

How do you find the "good" parties on Mykonos?

I went to only one of the beach clubs on Mykonos and it wasn't really my vibe. Yet, I constantly see people partying in Mykonos and it looks fun and they're having a blast. How do these people find those parties?

My questions:

  • Are many of these parties private events?
  • Are there clubs away from the beaches that are known for their nightlife and DJs?
  • Are there different DJs that go to Mykonos? Maybe I can find out about the parties by tracking the DJs?
Another possibility is maybe the party scene really isn't my thing. I appreciate all your thoughts!

Favorite Beaches on Mykonos

I know that people have mixed feelings about the beaches of Mykonos, but I plan to go this year. I've been in the past and wanted to share my three favorites:

1. Elia Beach

  • Elia is the longest sandy beach in Mykonos, offering a less crowded experience. It's ideal for those who want to relax and enjoy crystal-clear waters.
  • Tip: Try the water sports facilities there — I don't enjoy it but my family members report that this is fun. They've rented jet skis.

2. Paradise Beach

  • As the name suggests, Paradise Beach is lovely. It's known for the party scene, but during the day it isn't bad. They just play DJ music while you're at the beach, and there's a lively bar.
  • Note: Leave before the evening parties start if that's not your scene. I love the energy during the day but I have to be in the mood for the music.

3. Psarou Beach

  • Psarou might allure you with its upscale vibe and excellent beachside services. It's all about luxury yachts, boutique shops, and high-end dining.
  • Recommendation: Don't miss the opportunity to snorkel in these beautiful waters. It's very serene here in general.

Advice for an extended stay in Mykonos

I plan to be on Mykonos for about a month over the summer and I honestly feel like I am a bit late to the party securing a rental for that long. I am not seeing much on airbnb.

That could change as more properties become available... I don't know.

Am I missing something? Are there other networks that people use when going to Mykonos that I maybe haven't thought of? I don't want to move mid trip but I guess I could. Like do a week here and there. It could give me a chance to see different things on the island.

Things to Do in Mykonos at Christmas

I am thinking of heading to Mykonos this Christmas season to visit some people. I thought I would share some thoughts about what I can do there this time of year.

Christmas Markets

Like many other places in Europe, Mykonos also has its own version of Christmas markets. Wander around the charming alleys of the old town and discover festive stalls selling handmade crafts, traditional sweets, and local delicacies. The main market takes place in Manto Square, where you can also experience the lighting of the Christmas tree and carol singing.

Traditional Celebration

Christmas celebrations in Mykonos follow the Greek Orthodox calendar, which means that the main festivities are held on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. You can attend the midnight Mass at one of the island's many churches, such as the Paraportiani Church, or witness the local traditions of kalanda (carol singing) and feasting on traditional dishes like avgolemono soup and roasted lamb.

Christmas Shopping

There are some great shops on Mykonos. I can do my Christmas shopping here!

How expensive is Mykonos?

I won't be going this year, but I am starting to plan for next year. I plan to be in a Greece for at least a month and someone I am traveling with is adamant about wanting to experience some clubs in Mykonos.

I think it does look fun, but I am concerned with whether or not it is expensive. I heard it can get bad. We have a limited budget... can we navigate the expense of it, and find less expensive ways to enjoy it. Can we?
