I need to figure out how to call Greece from the United States for free! Any advice?

I no longer have a landline. Someone said I could use Skype for free? I don't have Skype, though, so I don't want to do that.

I also heard that WhatsApp has some options? I have a friend that called the US FROM Greece... does it work in the reverse and is it really free?

Download the Viber app. Free between app holders you can add money to call landlines very cheaply

Great trip! I usually make sure my regular cell can accept international calls, and then I bring a burner phone or buy one when I get to Greece and just use SIM cards while there for my in-country stuff.

Booking a trip to Greece from the US can be a real adventure, especially when you're looking to save on those phone bills. One trick I've found handy is using apps or services that let you make calls to Greece for free or at low rates. It's like having a direct line to paradise without burning through your wallet. Plus, it's super convenient when you need to sort out all those travel details hassle-free. For anyone planning a European getaway, it's worth checking out options like SIM cards from places like https://simsdirect.com.au/collections/europe that can keep you connected without the crazy costs.

10 Days in Greece - No Athens or Islands

I’m planning a 10-day trip to Greece and would love some help crafting an itinerary. I’ve already spent time in Athens and the mainland, so this time, I’d like to focus entirely on the islands or other unique coastal spots. I’m interested in experiencing beautiful beaches, quaint villages, local culture, and, of course, some fantastic Greek food!

I’m open to a mix of popular spots and lesser-known islands, and I’d love suggestions on which islands are must-sees and how long to spend on each one. I’m especially curious if anyone has tips on efficient ferry routes or if it’s worth flying between some of the farther islands. Also, any recommendations on accommodations or local experiences would be amazing!

Thanks so much for any advice or ideas you can share.

What does contemporary fine dining look like in Greece?

I’m planning a trip to Greece and, while I love traditional Greek food, I’m also curious about the modern fine dining scene. I know Greece has a deep culinary heritage, but I’ve heard that some chefs are taking classic flavors and giving them a contemporary twist.

For those who have experienced it, what does fine dining in Greece look like today? Are there any standout restaurants or chefs redefining Greek cuisine? Is it more focused on Michelin-starred establishments, or are there also smaller, innovative spots worth checking out?

I’m particularly interested in tasting dishes that blend tradition with modern techniques, maybe something with a creative take on seafood, local ingredients, or Greek wines. Any recommendations for restaurants in Athens, Thessaloniki, or the islands?

Would love to hear about your experiences and must-try dishes! Thanks in advance.

Public Transportation Mainland Greece

I’m planning a trip to mainland Greece and want to explore beyond just Athens. I’ve heard that public transportation, like buses and trains, can be a great way to get around, but I’m not sure how easy it is to navigate, especially as a tourist who doesn’t speak Greek.

Can anyone share tips on using public transportation in places like Thessaloniki, Delphi, or the Peloponnese? Are the buses and trains reliable and frequent, or is renting a car a better option for flexibility? Also, is there a good website or app for checking schedules and buying tickets in advance?

I’d love to hear about your experiences and any recommendations you might have for making the most out of traveling through Greece’s public transport system.

More Museums in Athens?

Our family visits Athens almost every year, and we love exploring its amazing museums. Last year, we had a great time at the Acropolis Museum and the National Archaeological Museum. This year, we’re heading back in early spring for a family event and are looking for new museums to visit.

We’d love to find places that might be more focused on art or something unique that would appeal to all ages. Any recommendations for must-see museums or hidden gems in Athens? Bonus points for something interactive or family-friendly!

We’re always excited to hear about places we haven’t been yet. Let me know your favorites—thanks in advance!

happy new year
