Orthodox Christian Lent started today... I am curious - what do people here do for it? Many people I know "give something up" other people "Fast" according to the prescribed church fast.

I am not sure what I want to do this year. It is hard following the fast, but also not too bad because I don't eat a lot of meat.. I might want to do something that feels a bit more personal...

Literature Forum needed?

WG is a great website to discuss Greek places to travel to as well as traditions, history, and mythology. However, I think it would be a great tool for ANYbody and for HS students to learn about Greeks ancient and modern if we had a literature forum with specific references to and info about, lyrical and dramatic poets, theologians, philosophers, scientists, medical writers, historians/ethnologists, etc. // yes/no?
ALL ABOUT THE HISTORICAL GREEK [linguistic] INTELLECT, the NOUS POIETIKOS, the summit of Greek culture. // don't wait for artificial intelligence.......

Spitting and the Evil Eye?

I remember my family spitting to ward off the evil eye (or something like that). I can't remember all the rules. I am trying to pass down some of the stories to the next generation but I am fuzzy on the details. I recall when my cousin was born, everyone was spitting on him? It seemed a little odd but I was just a kid and recall participating (and it was fun haha).

People were also saying something while spitting. What was it?

Gift Idea for Adult Chrismation

I have a friend who is half Greek who is Chrismating into the Orthodox Faith in a few weeks.

I want to get her a gift.

Does anyone have any gift ideas?

What to bring to church as a godparent during Christening?

I am so excited, I have just been asked to be a godmother. I know generally what is expected but I am trying to sort it all out. What is it that godparents need to bring to the Christening? I know that the priest usually provides a list but I want to start getting ahead of it. With Easter just behind us, I don't know how long it will be until I get the list. The Christening isn't for a few months, but I know that the church seems to be a bit behind and I have no idea how long it will be until I get the list!

What is dating like in Greece?

I am curious - what is dating like in Greece? The reason I ask is I have a younger cousin, college age, who is spending the whole summer in Greece.

She's been meeting Greek men over there who have been interested in her. She expressed that she is having a difficult time figuring out the right way to behave, or what to expect from the men. Any tips I can pass on to her?
