I recently had a gyro at a Greek festival and it was delicious. I would love to be making these at home but am not sure buying the typical meat (the stuff that is shaved off the spit thing that is hanging up) is worth it. Is it possible to somehow replicate this at home? Make my own meat maybe, or even buy some meat from somewhere (the real meat stuff that is used in Greece)? I went to a restaurant and they actually put lamb sliced from a leg in the gyros there. Is this really something that people do in Greece or do they pretty much just get gyros when they are out and don't make it at home?
