I know this is going to be controversial, but I'd love to hear everyone's experiences and thoughts about the most beautiful beaches in Kefalonia. I know that many of you are biased, but that's ok, I'll take that into account when making my travel plans this year LOL.

This is a tough question!! My favorite beach on Kefalonia is the red XI beach...it is truly amazing!

That's a super difficult question, and I'm definitely biased lol. My top two would have to be Antisamos beach and Kaminia. Antisamos is surrounded by hills and forests, which gives it a nice, rustic charm and that’s why I love it.

I am not biased because I have no family roots on the island. I visited it only once and went to several places. Other than Myrtos, that's admittedly stunning, Skala also remains unforgettable to me. I highly recommend you don't miss this beautiful sandy beach!

Makris Gialos is amazing! The water is crystal clear, and the beach is so clean. It's super popular among tourists, and it's a great place to hang out and even meet new people. I love lounging on the beach chairs there.

Skala beach is super underrated. Most people think that Pebble Beach is are nice, but that's totally not true. It's so beautiful and the water is really clean. Just make sure that you bring proper shoes, because the pump is going to be a little uncomfortable under your feet. Here's a pic of skala beach

Pebbles??? That sounds so uncomfortable LOL not really what I have in mind when I want to go to the beach in Greece.

Not all parts of the beach have pebbles (as you can see in the pic) but yeah, it's not the most popular. But it is beautiful for taking pictures, it's more of a beach to chill at or check out as you walk along on the boardwalk.

Myrtos, definitely!

Turtles question about Kefalonia

I'm planning an upcoming trip to the beautiful island of Kefalonia and I've heard quite a bit about the turtles that can be seen around the island. 🐢💦

Being a wildlife lover, I'd be thrilled to catch a glimpse of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat! I have a few questions and would greatly appreciate insights from those who have visited or are knowledgeable about the local wildlife:
  1. What is the best time of year to observe turtles in Kefalonia?
  2. Are there specific locations where sightings are more common?
  3. Do local conservation efforts support safe viewing that won't disrupt the turtles' natural behavior?
Anything you have to share will be helpful!

Visiting Lixouri in Kefalonia?

I am planing to go to Kefalonia and want to stay in a town that has a lot going on but maybe isn't so big and overwhelming. I researched and thought maybe Lixouri was a candidate?

This will be my first time on Kefalonia and I am interested in any tips you can give, such as:
  • What are the must-see attractions in and around Lixouri?
  • Can you suggest any hidden gems that a tourist might typically overlook?
  • What's the best way to get around the town and to nearby sites?
  • Any advice on local dining spots or unforgettable culinary experiences?
  • I'm also interested in outdoor activities — are there any particular hikes or natural wonders not to be missed?
  • Lastly, if you have any tips on cultural etiquette or local customs, I’d love to hear about them!
Thank you!

Did I Miss Turtle Season?

I have always wanted to see the turtles in Kefalonia. They come to the beach to lay eggs or something once a year or so, right? Did I miss it?

I Might have to wait until next year to do this. Does anyone have an advice?

I was originally planning to go n September, but I think if that is the case, I would have missed it?

Planning to visit Melissani Cave

I am planning to go to Kefalonia and want to visit Melissani Cave. I am personally very excited about it, but someone in my party is afraid of small spaces (small, dark spaces). Their claustrophobia is actually something they've needed therapy for in the past.

To those of you who have been, do you think this individual should try to find something else to do that day?!

I am not crazy about that aspect of visiting caves either, but I don't have a legit fear like she does. I know that I can relax and enjoy the experience once I get used to the feelings of being in a cave.

What to do in Faskardo Village on Kefalonia

I visited this village once maybe eight years ago and I want to go back. I have some notes about the things to do there. I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts. Did I miss anything? I want to take my family there because I found the place to be really beautiful.

  • Stroll the Waterfront Promenade: Enjoy a leisurely walk along the picturesque harbor with its array of colorful fishing boats and yachts.
  • Explore Historical Venetian Architecture: Take in the charming Venetian-style buildings that survived the 1953 earthquake, giving Fiskardo its unique character.
  • Relax at Foki Beach: Spend a day sunbathing and swimming in the serene bay of Foki, surrounded by olive groves and cypress trees.
  • Join a Boat Tour: Embark on a boat excursion to discover remote beaches, hidden coves, and the stunning coastline around Fiskardo.
  • Visit the Fiskardo Nautical and Environmental Museum: Learn about the maritime history and natural environment of the region through engaging exhibits.
  • Hike to the Lighthouse: Follow the scenic trails leading out of Fiskardo to the iconic lighthouse and enjoy panoramic views of the sea.
What did I miss? Anyone have any restaurants to recommend?
