I'm currently planning my itinerary for a trip to the beautiful island of Corfu, and while I've got all the major sights on my list, I'm particularly interested in those special "off the beaten path" spots that only the locals know about or seasoned travelers have stumbled upon.

I'm looking to explore the less commercialized areas, serene beaches, quaint villages, or any unique cultural spots that offer an authentic experience beyond the typical tourist attractions.

Does anyone have any personal favorites or undiscovered spots in Corfu they'd be willing to share? I'd love to hear about hidden beaches, local eateries or tavernas, and lesser-known trails or sights worth visiting.

Corfu is a well-discovered island; however if you rent a car you’ll be able to explore the villages; maybe even discover a hidden beach or two in the less-touristed southern tip of the island. As far as the popular spots, definitely don’t avoid the beaches of Paleokastritsa and Mirtiotissa; both with their monasteries. The drive up the mountain road above Paleokastritsa to the Kastro is also very rewarding.

Heading towards the northeastern part of the island, the abandoned village of Old Perithia is interesting. The coastline in this area is beautiful (and popular) with spectacular scenery and a view across the straits to Albania. One of my all-time favorite tavernas there is Toula’s located in Agni. Her signature shrimp dish (Γαρίδες της Τούλας) is amazing!

If you’re feeling adventuresome, you can even get a day trip to Saranda, Albania to see the UNESCO World Heritage site of Butrint. (Get the trip that leaves from Corfu Town - not the third party “Viator” type tour that meets up in Albania!) From Corfu there is also an extremely popular day trip to Paxos, but in spite of going on a boat tour, Paxos and Anti-Paxos are two of the loveliest islands with some of the best beaches in Greece.

Both Corfu and Paxos have lovely walks through the olive groves and along the coasts. For more serious hiking, I’d definitely consult a hiking website.

The Old Town of Corfu is a World Heritage Site itself, so in spite of dealing with crowds you’ll want to explore the town, the fortresses, Church of Saint Spyridon, and definitely the Liston. Do a search before you go to find out what special events and concerts might be held while you’re there (Corfu has a lot of music and dance events); check also for church processions and saint day celebrations. One of my best visits to Corfu included a Panigiri (πανηγύρι) in a grove near the Kastro. These are local events, but visitors are always welcomed. I hope this helps!

Some great gems here in Deborah's suggestions. I love the idea of renting a car. Even though there are taxis, maybe even buses, I find it much better to be on my own timeline and controlling my own route. There are some fun things to explore - hidden gems tucked out of the way - that are hard to find if you don't have a car.

I have heard some great things about Old Perithia! Also, finding out of the way beaches is always fun, too. Sometimes I want the bustle of a popular beach, sometimes I don't. Corfu has both.

It might be worth it to visit the relics of Saint Spyridon, too. I haven't done this but my parents did and they raved about it.

Hi Nadelli, did you end up doing this trip? I'm doing something similar next year (summer 2025) so I'd be really interested to hear about your experience

Liston Promenade - What to See?

I’m planning some time in Corfu Town and keep seeing the Liston Promenade mentioned as a must-see spot. I understand it’s one of the most well-known areas, but I’m trying to get a better sense of what to actually look for while I’m there.

Is it more about the atmosphere and architecture, or are there specific landmarks, cafés, or details that stand out? I’ve seen photos of the arcades and the open square nearby, but I don’t want to just pass through without really appreciating it.

Would you recommend going at a certain time of day to get the full experience? And are there any spots along the promenade that are easy to miss but worth noticing?

Advice Needed - North Corfu vs. South Corfu

I'm thinking about visiting Corfu either this summer or next year, and I'm trying to decide whether I'd prefer staying in the northern or southern part of the island.

From what I've read, North Corfu seems to have dramatic scenery, picturesque villages, and places like Paleokastritsa and Sidari. On the other hand, South Corfu sounds quieter, less crowded, and maybe a bit more relaxed overall.

I enjoy beautiful beaches, local tavernas, scenic drives, and wandering through villages, but I'm not really looking for a nightlife-focused trip. I'd rather experience the island at a slower pace and get a feel for the local atmosphere.

For those who have visited Corfu, which part of the island did you prefer and why? If you were planning your first trip, would you stay in the north, the south, or split your time between both? I'd love to hear your recommendations.

Hiking trails on Corfu?

I’m starting to look more seriously at Corfu for a future trip, and one thing that really appeals to me is the landscape. The island seems greener than many other parts of Greece, and I’ve heard there are some beautiful hiking opportunities with coastal views, hills, and even mountain scenery.

I’d love to include a few hikes in my itinerary, but I’m not sure where to start. Are there particular trails that stand out for scenery or overall experience? I’ve come across mentions of the Corfu Trail, but I’m also curious about shorter routes that could be done in half a day.

For those who have hiked there, how difficult are the trails generally? Any recommendations for specific areas, viewpoints, or routes that are especially memorable?
Also interested in practical tips, best seasons, footwear, or things to watch out for.

Would love to hear your experiences and suggestions!

What made you fall in love with Corfu?

Those of you who have been to Corfu, I am curious. What made you fall in love with it? My wife and I are thinking of going. We love the Greek culture and Greece and have never been. I've been experimenting cooking Greek food. We love to go out for Greek food!

Goal is to do a food tour of Greece, but Corfu really catches our eye as a great destination. I would love to hear what you think of it. We want to experience the culture! We have at least 3 nights to spend there before we move on to somewhere else in Greece.

Do you need a car in Corfu?

I'm thinking about visiting Corfu next spring, and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth renting a car or if it's easy enough to get around without one. I usually don't mind using public transportation, but I also don't want to miss out on some of the island's beautiful beaches, villages, and viewpoints if they're difficult to reach.

My plan is to spend a few days exploring Corfu Town, but I'd also like to visit places like Paleokastritsa and maybe a few smaller villages if time allows. Are the buses reliable in the spring, or does having a car make the trip much more enjoyable?

For those of you who have been to Corfu, what did you do? Would you rent a car again, or did you find other transportation options worked just fine? I'd love to hear your experiences before I start planning.
