I am going to Corfu soon - maybe in about three weeks (mid-September).

What is the weather like? I have never been there...

I know on islands like Crete it's still pretty warm in mid September with beach weather. That island is further south than Corfu. Does it make a huge difference? I will be going to Crete, too, so I am trying to figure out how to pack.

For Crete, bring a light sweater and/or jacket for evenings. For Corfu, include a lightweight windbreaker/rain jacket as the seasons typically start to change by the third week in September. It’s still warm enough to swim, but you might have some periods of rain. I’ve stopped carrying a travel umbrella to both locations because if the rain brings strong wind, which it often does, travel umbrellas can be totally useless. I might bring a light sweater this time because I’m going later this year, but ordinarily I’d just bring a light weather-resistant rain jacket, which usually stays packed in the bottom of my suitcase. If you’ve planned to do some hiking, then obviously you’ll want to bring the proper outerwear gear. Long story short (haha!) yes, the latitude does make a difference at this time of year.

I just got back from Greece - Crete was still hot - 80+ Fahrenheit. But, it was colder further north - in the 70s and cooler at night. So I would definitely bring a light sweater!

Nightlife Advice for Corfu

I'm curious about the nightlife scene on Corfu. I've heard it's a beautiful place with plenty of daytime activities, but I'm wondering if there's also a good selection of bars, clubs, or evening entertainment to enjoy after dark. Are there any specific areas or towns on Corfu known for having lively nightlife? I'm particularly interested in places where locals and tourists mix, and where I can experience authentic Greek vibes as well as some modern options.

Any recommendations for must-visit spots or tips on the best time to go out would be really helpful. I'm also open to suggestions for more laid-back evening activities, like live music or beach bars, or something like that. I am getting a feel for the vibe.

Corfu for Snorkeling?

I'm considering a trip to Corfu and am curious about the snorkeling opportunities there. Is Corfu a good place for snorkeling? Are there specific beaches or spots that are particularly great for underwater exploration? Any recommendations for guided snorkeling tours or places to rent equipment?

I’m looking for clear waters, abundant marine life, and beautiful underwater scenery. Additionally, any tips on the best times of year for snorkeling in Corfu would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Visiting the Castles on Corfu

I’m planning a trip to Corfu and am particularly excited about exploring the island’s castles and fortresses. I’ve heard there are some incredible historical sites like the Old Fortress and the New Fortress in Corfu Town, but I’d love to hear more about them and any other castles that are worth visiting.

Does anyone have recommendations on the best way to explore these sites? Are there guided tours that provide a lot of historical context, or is it better to explore on your own? I’m also curious about any hidden spots or lesser-known castles around the island that I shouldn’t miss. Thank you!

Paleokastritsa, summer 2025

Hi everyone

I have just joined this site to see if I can get some Corfu travel tips or maybe even meet some other people heading to Corfu next summer.
I am 53, from Derby, England, and I've decided to have a month's RnR in Paleokastritsa.
I'd be really keen to hear from anyone with any tips or insight into the area, life in Corfu, how I might be able to meet people and things to see and do. I'm thinking of hiring a moped to get around, do lots of reading, relaxing, hiking, eating and (a bit of) drinking! Most of all, reflecting and enjoying the environment - and the sunshine! I need to take some time to indulge in this.

What is Paleokastritsa like? From all of my research, it seems to be a good mix of quiet and lively (ie. not party town but also not completely dead). Are there restuarants there which aren't too expensive? Are there any good, chill out bars which stay open late? Also, are there ways to meet other travellers out there or is there anyone on here heading to Corfu next summer who'd be interested in connecting beforehand? It'd be really cool to build a little online community, if there was anyone in a similar position, even if they're going to a different part of the island.

Anyway, that's why I joined this site - to meet any others but also to find out about Corfu and paleokasistra. I'd love to hear from any of you!
All the best,
Neil

List of traditional Corfu villages to visit?

I am researching the possibility of traveling to Corfu this year. What are some villages we must see? I have a list of six or so that I find intriguing - anything to add or subtract?
  1. Pelekas
  2. Liapades
  3. Lakones
  4. Agios Mattheos
  5. Agios Gordios
  6. Sokraki
What do you think? I am having a hard time visualizing things.
