I am thinking of taking a trip to Thessaloniki next year. I am trying to think of what to do. I just want a rough idea so I can figure out how many days to spend.

Here's what I was thinking for some activities, but I want to know your recommendations:
  • Taking a walk along the beautiful waterfront promenade
  • Exploring the historical White Tower
  • Savoring delicious Greek cuisine at the local tavernas
What activities or spots would you recommend? I'm interested in everything from cultural experiences, food destinations, hidden gems, to some relaxation spots. And of course, if there are any events or local gatherings happening, I'd be thrilled to join and immerse myself in the local culture.

I have some recommendations. I was in Thessaloniki this past fall:

- White tower and the promenade area
- Rotunda, Galeria arch
- Walk through Ano poli - the upper town
- Modiano market - I just saw it in passing - I would have spent more time here if I were there longer
- Archeological Museum - I really loved it here - there are some cases with gorgeous jewelry found in archaeological digs - I got a kick out of those!

When to Visit Thessaloniki?

I’m planning a trip to Thessaloniki and would love some advice on the best time of year to visit. I’m interested in exploring the city’s historical sites, enjoying the local cuisine, and soaking up the atmosphere, but I’m not sure when the ideal time to go would be.

I’d like to avoid the extreme heat of summer if possible, but I still want to experience pleasant weather that’s good for sightseeing and outdoor activities. I’ve heard that Thessaloniki has a vibrant cultural scene—are there any specific festivals or events that happen during certain times of the year that I shouldn’t miss?

Also, how do the crowds and prices compare across different seasons? Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated as I try to figure out the best time to experience all that Thessaloniki has to offer.

Solo Travel - 3 Days in Thessaloniki

I’ll be traveling to Thessaloniki by myself for work, but I’ve managed to carve out three extra days to explore the city! Since it’ll be my first time there, I’d love some advice on must-see sights, great local restaurants, and solo-friendly activities.

I’m definitely planning to check out the White Tower, Ano Poli, and Aristotelous Square, but what else should I add to my list? I’d love to experience authentic Greek food, so any recommendations for great tavernas or brunch spots would be amazing!

Also, is the city easy to navigate on foot, or should I rely on public transport? Any hidden gems or off-the-beaten-path experiences you’d recommend for a solo traveler?

Visiting Thessaloniki in Late Spring

I might visit Thessaloniki in late spring and would love some advice to make the most of my visit. I’ve heard that the weather is perfect around this time—not too hot, but warm enough to enjoy the city’s outdoor charm. Are there any must-see attractions or hidden gems I should prioritize? I’m especially interested in exploring historical sites, walking along the waterfront, and sampling local cuisine.

Speaking of food, are there any restaurants, tavernas, or markets you’d recommend? I’d love to try authentic dishes like bougatsa or anything uniquely Thessaloniki.

Also, how busy does the city get in late spring? Will I need to book things like tours or restaurants in advance?

How Soon to Start Planning a Trip to Thessaloniki for Next Summer?

I know I am going to Thessaloniki in the summer, but I am not quite ready to do so because I haven't quite nailed the timing. Lots of factors, including work, are preventing me from planning.

I will be flying out of Toronto when eventually decided my travel itinerary.

How soon do I need to get my act together to plan the trip - I am likely going in July. I don't want to miss out on good flight prices. I know that once I have the flight, the rest of the trip will be easier to plan. It's the flight I am mostly concerned about.

Advice for taking a food tour of Thessaloniki?

I absolutely love Thessaloniki, but I’ve never really explored it through a food tour before. This time, I want to dive deep into the local flavors and experience the city in a new way. I’m looking for something very authentic—less about touristy spots and more about where the locals eat.

Has anyone taken a great food tour in Thessaloniki that really showcases the city’s culinary identity? I’d love recommendations for tours that focus on traditional meze, street food, or even lesser-known family-run spots. Bonus points if there’s a chance to learn about the city’s diverse food history along the way!

If you’ve done one, what were the highlights? Or would you recommend skipping a tour and just doing a self-guided food adventure instead?
