I am still trying to decide if I should visit Mykonos and am still completely on the fence. Then, I bump into photos like this and I start thinking that I want to go again. But then, I read that it is expensive and I decide to skip it. I keep going back and forth! Maybe it will help if I see some of your photos of the place? Or maybe a photo of a place you think I should visit instead?

I hesitated to reply because it will seem as though I’m putting Mykonos down - and I’m not. It was one of the very first islands that I visited in 1974 and I have some beautiful photos of the traditional Cycladic way of life (like these gorgeous windmills) and some incredible memories that prompted me to return to Greece year after year!

The one question you have to ask yourself is what kind of vacation are you seeking? Are you looking for upscale accommodation, days spent on the beach, and celebrity-worthy party nightlife - or - something more laid-back; traditional; with more possibilities for activities such as hiking, historical sites, exploration, and the chance to interact with local people? Once you decide this, you will know if Mykonos and the expense is worth it to you. Santorini is also very popular, expensive, and has probably the most surprising and stunning scenery (outside perhaps of the Monasteries of Meteora) of all of Greece. Nonetheless, ALL locations in Greece have their own unique beauty; you really can’t go wrong. It mostly depends on what you’d like to do. I hope that this helps.

It is as expensive as you want it to be. Don't go to the beaches where they ask 50 euro for a sunbed.
We've been to town this year (and to Delos). It was allright. We ain't party people so don't know how much that costs. Restaurants and regular bars/coffeeshops are not too expensive and town is nice for 3 nights.

That's where I am leaning - to spend just a few nights here and then move on to somewhere else. Our group is large - and not all of us can stay for an extended period of time. This is helpful, thanks!

A few in our party are insisting that they want to see the party scene, but the rest of the group is reluctant because of the expense, and they don't like to party as much. This trip has been crazy to coordinate because the group is so large, and not everyone's days are overlapping (some can stay for a week, others just a few days...) - given that, trying to get to an island may not be our best bet unless we stay for just a few days in Mykonos and then move on to somewhere more laid back. Thank you for chiming in!

I don't have a pic to share but I want to chime in about Mykonos. It can be nuts, especially in peak season. If any in your party are reluctant I vote to skip it. The ones who don't like chaotic party scenes will drag the whole party down. This happened to me. I had someone in my group drag us all down and they had a terrible time and had to spend a bunch of money. I suggest trying to find a consensus - a great place in Greece everyone can be excited about.

Best Way to Get a Car Service to JFK Airport Before a Flight to Greece?

Hi everyone, I'm flying out of JFK next month for a trip to Greece and trying to figure out the best way to get to the airport without the usual stress. My flight leaves early in the morning, and I don't want to deal with parking for two weeks or ask a family member to drive me at 4 a.m. I've been looking into booking a car service to JFK Airport instead of a rideshare, mainly because international flights need more buffer time, and I'd rather have a proper chauffeur waiting curbside than risk a driver cancelling at the last minute with all my luggage in tow. A friend of mine recently used Blue Nile Livery for a JFK run and said her chauffeur showed up early, helped load the bags, and tracked the flight the whole way, so she suggested I try them for this trip too.
I'm still trying to figure out whether it's worth booking the chauffeur service a few days in advance or if that's overkill for a domestic pickup, whether a sedan is fine or if an SUV is smarter given how much luggage most of us end up hauling back and forth to Greece, and if anyone has had a chauffeur reroute or adjust pickup timing because of a flight delay before an international departure. For those of you who fly out of JFK often for trips back to Greece, what's worked best for you, and is there a chauffeur service you'd genuinely recommend for an early morning run like this? Any tips appreciated!

Which Greek island feels the least touristy in the summer?

I know that July and August are busy almost everywhere in Greece, especially on the more famous islands, but I’m curious about places that still feel relatively local and relaxed even during peak season.

I’m not necessarily looking for somewhere completely empty. I’d just love an island where you can still find traditional villages, local tavernas, quieter beaches, and a slower pace without feeling like the entire island is built around tourism.

Have you visited an island in the summer that still felt authentic and not overly crowded? I’d especially be interested in places where locals still seem to set the rhythm of daily life rather than visitors.

Which island would you recommend, and what made it feel less touristy to you? Was it the beaches, villages, restaurants, fewer cruise ships, or just the overall atmosphere?

Best Greek Destinations for History Lovers

I’m thinking about planning a Greece trip next year that is focused almost entirely on history, and I’d love some ideas for the best places to include.

Athens would obviously be part of the itinerary for the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, museums, and other archaeological sites. I’m also considering Delphi, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Olympia, and maybe spending more time exploring the Peloponnese. Meteora is on my list too, although that would add a different type of historical experience.

I’m especially interested in places where you can really spend time exploring rather than just stopping briefly to see one major site.

If you were planning a history-focused trip to Greece, which destinations would you consider essential? Are there lesser-known archaeological sites, historic towns, museums, Byzantine sites, or ancient ruins that deserve more attention? I’d also love suggestions for putting together an itinerary without trying to cover too much ground.

Why do some score tracking platforms show delayed match updates?

Been tearing my hair out lately trying to follow live matches because some score‑tracking apps update super fast while others lag like they’re stuck in another century. I’m talking minutes behind, not seconds. It’s driving me nuts, especially when I’m juggling fantasy leagues and friendly bets with my buddies. I keep switching between apps hoping one will magically work better, but no luck so far. Is this just bad servers, licensing stuff, or am I using the wrong platforms altogether? If anyone knows what actually causes these delays—or has app recommendations—I’m all ears.

Is Greece easy to travel around without renting a car?

I’m trying to figure out whether it’s realistic to travel around Greece without renting a car. I’d prefer not to drive if I can avoid it, especially since I’m not familiar with the roads, parking, or driving customs there.

For those who have traveled around Greece using public transportation, how easy was it? I know there are buses, ferries, taxis, and domestic flights, but I’m wondering how practical they are once you get outside the main tourist areas. Did you ever feel limited by not having a car?

I’m also curious whether it makes sense to rely on public transportation for most of the trip and just rent a car for a day or two when needed. Are there certain types of places that are especially difficult to reach without one?

I’d love to hear from anyone who has done a Greece trip mostly or entirely without driving.
