Best Rental Car Companies in Greece?

I think Sixt allows cars on the ferry, but I believe you have to disclose this.

Attending a non-Greek wedding in Greece

My daughter just has her wedding in Crete. Almost everyone who came was from the US. They recognized that the expense to attend was considerable and didn’t expect gifts - completely discretionary. If you do decide to get something remember they have to pack it. Maybe an olive wood cutting board...

Good Beaches to Visit Near Athens?

The buses run up and down Posidonos and the tram can take you as far as Voula. The closest beach to Athens with an night club is Bolivar Beach in Alimos

Best way to book the "3 Island" cruise

Just Google Athens day cruises and several should come up. I have done this with guests several times over the years. Just be aware that you only spend a brief time on each island. As an alternative, we have been recommending to just spend a day or two on Aegina. You can rent mopeds or 4...

    Visiting Temple of Poseidon

Th temple is a worthwhile site to see, especially at sunset. We usually rent a car for the trip, but I’m sure you could charter a taxi. We are just west of you in Alimos. I would plan to leave about two hours before to sunset as entrance to the temple closes 20 min prior to sunset. Find a spot...

Has anyone here seen a performance n Epidavros?

It is an amazing experience. We have seen two performances - one was the Royal British Theater Company. Outstanding! Get the upgraded seats with a cushion. It is a several hour drive from Athens, so you may want to consider booking an Airbnb in one of the villages closer to the venue.

Planning first trip to Athens for 2023

I've done guided day tours of Epidaurus and Delphi, when I've entertained guests. They were actually great experiences and included lunch. Also, a nice option is a day cruise that includes Hydra, Poros and Aegina.

Planning first trip to Athens for 2023

My favorite rooftop bar is the Grand Bretagne Hotel in Syntagma Square. It is a bit upper class and expensive, but the service is outstanding. For a more casual option, I would recommend the A for Athens Hotel, which is right next to Monastiraki Metro Station. Enjoy!

Day trips from Athens to Hydra?

Its not a big island and a pretty quick journey. There are plenty of ferries from Piraeus. It's also a good place to catch a private or semi-private boat to some secluded beaches, so pack your swim bag.

Can I rely on public transportation in Greece?

In and around Athens public transport is excellent (unless they are on strike). Bus, tram and metro are great. I would download the Taxi Beat app. That along with Uber will access Taxis without having to scramble for cash. The Metro was just extending into Piraeus, which will get you to the...

Planning first trip to Athens for 2023

I think its great you are staying around the Athens area. Too often people try to cram so much into their trip, they don't get to experience the laid back lifestyle. A couple of suggestions: Epidaurus - Ancient theater that is still in use today. Its within driving distance, but you might...

Is it possible to be spontaneous in Greece?

You can be spontaneous in Greece, especially if you are willing to get out of the more touristy areas. Lots of lovely villages and seaside locations for r&r. Take a car, ferry or train and explore.

    Great Athens Restaurants for Dining

I have been to all the Michelin rated restaurants in Athens. My recommendations are as follows ( this is purely on the culinary experience, not the view): 1) Spondi 2) Botrini’s Not Michelin rated, but worth a visit: 1) Aleria (prix fix) 2) Kouvelos (taverna) 3) Il Trovatore (Italian, Palio...

Has Anyone Watched a Game in Opap Arena?

Athens team Panathinaikos football plays in Leoforos Stadium in Athens. Panathinakos basketball plays in OACA indoor arena, which was used for gymnastics in the 2004 Olympics. I was at the arena for the Olympics but not for a bball game. I’m more of an Olympiacos fan anyway.
