Ikaria is one of the Blue Zones

I went to Ikaria last year for a week. It was beautiful. The people were so much more relaxed and less money-focussed than the more touristy islands. The food was incredible! It was the best Greek food I have had at a restaurant anywhere in Greece. From what I could see, they eat a lot of fish...

Off the Beaten Track Greece Travel?

Paros and Naxos these days get super busy in the peak months. Go any other time and you won't have a problem. Athens is another great place to stay and enjoy the Greek lifestyle. Stay away from the touristy places like Plaka and Monastiraki with the trashy tourist shopping. Explore other inner...

Can I Use Dried Dill Instead of Fresh?

Haven't tried dried dill but I have tried frozen dill and it seems to work almost as well as fresh dill. Tip: next time you buy or find some dill, freeze some of it to use later.

How do people in Greece exercise?

There are plenty of gyms in Athens. I haven't seen any in Plaka/Monastiraki, the usual touristy suburbs, but go just a little bit out and you should see plenty of gyms. I frequent Exarcheia and there are a couple of gyms I walk past daily. Not sure how to find out what gyms are available...

Has anyone here seen a performance n Epidavros?

The Epidavros theatre is unfortunately very difficult to get to from Athens. That's why I prefer seeing performances at the Ωδείο Ηρώδου του Αττικού at the base of the Acropolis. I have seen plays, operas and music there and the acoustics are amazing. Epidavros would be even better and maybe one...

    Best Archaeological Museums in Greece?

There are two museums you should see as a minimum in Athens. One of them you mentioned, the Acropolis Museum and the other is the National Archaeological Museum. This is the largest museum for archaeological artifacts in Greece and is a must-see. There are other museums like the Benaki Museum...

Trying to Figure Out Where to Retire in Greece...

I'm not there yet either but I'm getting ready for it. I bought an apartment in inner city Athens (not the touristy areas though - stayed away from Plaka/Monastiraki). I'm used to living in a city and prefer the vibrancy and variety of things to do. Athens has so many cultural events all year...

Where to go in Athens for some of the best nightlife!

I can make some suggestions in Exarcheia because I know that area better. For a while my favourite cocktail bar was Revolt Street Bar on Koletti but more recently I have been going to the bar next door called Sepia. The owner is a little bit more down to earth and the cocktails are STRONG! A...

Who is eligible for a ferry discount

My daughters are university students outside of Greece but they were eligible for the 50% discount too. I believe you have to register online and pay some nominal amount then use that as proof of your full time university student status.

There is a rental crisis in Greece

I knew this was happening in the centre of Athens due to airbnb but I wasn't aware of the outer suburbs going through this rental crisis as well. It's a shame that Greeks have to suffer so much. I can only hope that the situation improves as more jobs are created and the unemployment rate decreases.

Mushroom gyros are the best vegan option!

Good tip. I didn't know about this one. If you want to compare with a street souvlaki place near the centre of Athens that is all vegan try this: Cookoomela Grill
