    The Greek debt crisis explained

And for a great deal more detail about the troika negotiations (blackmail) that led to the closing of the banks in Greece, Yanis Varoufakis' book "Adults in the Room" is a good read.

    Greco-Buddhism

@Hash Since you live in the country of Theravadin Buddhism, the oldest extant form of Buddhism in the world today, you might be aware of the Milinda Pañha which is the debate between King Menander and the ascetic Buddhist monk, Nāgasena. Even though this was written much later, it is usually...

    Greco-Buddhism

A period of Ancient Greek history that is not well known amongst the Greek community is the influence that the Greeks had on Buddhism especially through their art and also the influence that Buddhism and other ascetic systems in India had on Greek philosophy. You can read all about it in this...

Words that are difficult to translate from Greek to English

There are a couple of phrases that I have come across that not only are directly translatable to english but I am not even sure of their meaning. I think they mean quick. The phrases are: στο πιτς φιτίλι and στο πι και φι. Can anyone here shed more light on these?

What should I pair skordalia with?

I think it goes well with fish. My parents used to grill fish and make skordalia to go with it. Not sure if it's commonly done that way in Greek cuisine.

What is your favorite itinerary for a 1 week family trip to Greece?

I agree with the previous comments. Spend your time in Athens and you can travel to many Greek islands close by from there or do day trips to sites such as Sounio, Delphi, Nafplio, etc. You can even stay in Athens close to the beach (eg Glyfada) and travel around using public transport. It's...

Greece prepares 4th vaccine dose; could be given a month after the 3rd booster shot

They seem to be one step ahead of the rest of the world. From what I understand the fourth dose is for those that are immunocompromised and need an extra boost to their immune system thereby further protecting the vulnerable.

Any updates on the omicron variant in Greece?

That's a really good question. It actually came about because of my desire to become more of a practicing xtian rather than just go to church xmas & easter etc. So I started to investigate xtianity to understand how I could actually practice the religion. I read the New Testament 3 times (I was...

Any updates on the omicron variant in Greece?

The main story characters like Jesus, his family and the rest of his apostles were middle eastern. Most of the story occurs in the middle east apart from some travels outside of the area. The old testament on which the whole NT is predicated is of course the Jewish religion which again is middle...

Any updates on the omicron variant in Greece?

My road is a deep one. And yes, it has come to an intellectual end. There is no more searching for the answers because they have been supplied by our ancestors thousands of years ago. I look to the ancient forefathers of Greece, the true Hellenes for the answers not from a foreign middle eastern...

Any updates on the omicron variant in Greece?

Yes but who are you praying to??? You still won't tell me!!! But seriously, I'm more of the Epicurean school of philosophy but strongly in the King Mendander I way of thinking about philosophy and life.

How Greece joined the European Union

I think this is a 2-pronged question. Being part of the EU is one prong and sharing the same currency is the other prong. Definitely we should be part of the EU and frankly, there is no EU without Greece. But we should NOT have gone to the Euro. The poorer countries in the EU, particularly...
