I’m thinking about going back to Santorini next year — I’ve been a few times before and absolutely love the island. This time, though, I want to do something a little different and focus more on shopping, especially for jewelry. I’m looking for cute, unique pieces — either handmade, local designs or anything with a Greek flair that doesn’t feel too mass-produced.

Any favorite shops or designers you’ve come across in Fira, Oia, or even the smaller villages? I’d love to hear where you found your favorite pieces? I want unique things. Like, a friend brought me back a bracelet that was made from beads cut from the Santorini lava stone, but funny enough, she bumped into this piece on Crete. So I thought, I should go to Santorini to get cool stuff like this! Do you have any favorite places to buy jewelry?

I’ve found that Santorini actually has a great mix of jewelry options if you know where to look beyond the main tourist rows. In Fira, there are several small workshops tucked into side streets where local artisans sell handmade silver and gold pieces, some with volcanic stone or sea glass. Oia also has a reputation for jewelry boutiques, and while some are upscale, you can still find smaller studios with unique designs.

One shop I really liked was Atlantis Books’ neighboring artisan stalls in Oia. There was a silversmith selling rings inspired by Cycladic motifs, very different from the mass-market stuff. In Fira, I saw bracelets made with lava beads and pumice, which sound similar to the one your friend picked up on Crete.

If you explore smaller villages like Pyrgos or Megalochori, you may find even more authentic pieces, often directly from the makers themselves.

I recently explored Santorini's artisan markets and found some great pieces. While you're there, take a moment to explore places like Oia for unique designs. If you're open to purchasing online, I've had a nice experience with Oath Jewelry for meaningful and high-quality pieces. Their collection includes items that could complement a Santorini-inspired look, and I love the personal touch in their designs.

Is Santorini Walkable?

It has been a while since I’ve been to Santorini, and I’m thinking about going back in the early summer next year. One thing I’m trying to remember is how walkable the island really is.

I know places like Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, and Oia are good for walking around once you’re there, but I’m wondering how practical it is to rely on walking for a larger part of the trip. I remember there being some hills, narrow roads, and areas where walking between places might not be as easy as it looks on a map.

For those who have been recently, how much walking did you actually do? Did you find that you still needed buses, taxis, or a rental car most days? I’d especially love to hear from anyone who stayed around Fira or Imerovigli and explored from there.

Is Summer Travel to Santorini Worth It?

I’ve only ever been to Santorini in May, and I absolutely loved it, the weather was perfect, and it felt busy but still manageable. Now I’m considering a trip to Greece this summer, and someone in my group is really pushing for Santorini again.

I’m a little hesitant, though. I’ve heard that in peak summer months the crowds can get pretty intense, especially in places like Oia and Fira. Part of what I loved last time was being able to actually enjoy the views without feeling packed in.

For those who have been in July or August, is it still worth it? Or does the crowd level take away from the experience? Are there ways to do Santorini in summer that still feel enjoyable, or would you recommend choosing a different island instead?

Is May a Good Month for Santorini?

I’m considering a trip to Santorini and would love some firsthand insight on visiting in May.

I’m hoping for a balance between pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and a more authentic feel of the island before peak summer tourism takes over. I’ve read that May can be warm but not too hot, with flowers still in bloom and restaurants starting to fully open for the season, but I’m curious how this plays out in reality. Does the island still feel calm, or is it already busy with cruise traffic? That's my main concern.

If you’ve visited Santorini in May, I’d love to hear what stood out, both the pros and any drawbacks you noticed.

Hiking in Santorini?

I’ve been to Santorini quite a few times over the years, but somehow I’ve never done any real hiking there. On my next trip, I’d love to change that and experience the island from a different perspective.

The obvious choice seems to be the Fira-to-Oia hike, but I’d love to hear from people who have actually done it. How difficult is it, how long did it take you, and what time of day would you recommend starting? Are there particular sections of the trail that are especially scenic?

I’m also curious whether there are other hikes or walking routes on Santorini that don’t get as much attention. I’ve already seen many of the major sights, so I’m especially interested in something that feels a little different from the usual sightseeing.

Any advice about shoes, water, transportation back afterward, or the best season for hiking would be greatly appreciated!

Best Place to Swim on Santorini?

I'm curious where people think the best place to swim on Santorini is. The island is obviously famous for its views and sunsets, but I don't hear as much discussion about the actual swimming.

I've seen recommendations for Perissa, Kamari, Red Beach, Vlychada, and even swimming from boat excursions around the caldera. They all look beautiful in photos, but I'm wondering which spot people enjoyed the most once they were actually in the water.

Do you prefer the black sand beaches, the more dramatic scenery around Red Beach, or some lesser-known location that visitors often miss? I'm also interested in places with particularly clear water, good snorkeling, or a relaxing atmosphere where you can spend several hours.

If you've been to Santorini, where was your favorite swim? Was it a beach, a hidden cove, or somewhere reached by boat? I'd love to hear your recommendations and why that spot stood out.
