Glyfada is the best getaway if you are staying in Athens

I'm an Athens native, so i'm always looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city! I really recommend going to the beachside restaurants in Glyfada, there's so nice especially at night because the moonlight view is stunning. Here's a good youtube video that my son found so it can give you a better idea of what Glyfada is like

Glydfada has some of the nicest restaurants in Athens because its much cooler during the nighttime and you get to feel the breeze by the beach. The views are amazing and if you can catch the sunset I recommend going at night

I totally agree. The area is beautiful, and there are also some great clubs here. There was a time when this was where many of Greece's celebrities lived. I am not sure this is still the case, but it was at one time. The beaches are relaxing and there are amazing views, too,

That's a great video! This is a nice area, and it's relaxing. It's so close to the center of Athens, too. It's like night and day. There's some nightlife here, too, which is fun.

Just picture this..... when I came to Glyfada in 1970 there were 3 tavernas,2 peripteros,1 hotel and a block of apartments in Voula which were rented for younger travellers,I was delivering some Vinyls for the disco there as I was based in London.... Asteria had just opened.....the road from Palio Faliro was just being built ........and when I returned back in 1983 on a convention,we rented the Astir Palace hotel..... And the love story for Elllada continued.... lived in Ano Glyfada too and friends had water sports business in Varkiza.....the beach restaurants and night life all along the Glyfada coastline and all the way to Voula, Varkiza and beyond are magnificent.

Woah that's crazy. I had no idea that Glyfada has changed so much. Now it's truly beautiful and a great way to get out of the city which is usually too hot and crowded for me in the summer time

I forgot to tell you,I could see my flight coming in to land,had to sleep on the floor when the Junta took over,tanks on the road, army everywhere,US troops were around also I think,all good fun,we were younger and very crazy,the best PR for Greece was Bouzoukis in Syntagma square every evening and complimentary Ouzo and Mezedes.....Filoxenia .....a word I learnt and Hospitality, Greek style ?......I was working in Tourism industry flying in and out of destinations all the time.... Greece was very different! Kalley Mera from Thailand and monsoons beginning..

Kali Mera! Really enjoyed hearing your experiences of this area of Greece. I have found the hospitality in Greece to be exceptional too, but as someone who is of Greek origin, it is nice to hear that people from other countries have had the same experiences. That's crazy that you experienced the Junta. You were a witness to history!

Best Athens Restaurants with Acropolis Views?

I’ve been to Athens many times over the years, but one thing I never get tired of is a great meal paired with an Acropolis view. I’ve already been to a few of the classic spots, but for my next trip I’d love to branch out and try something new, maybe somewhere a little unexpected, or a place locals actually enjoy as much as visitors.

I’m open to anything: modern Greek, traditional tavernas, rooftop bars with small plates, or even hotels with great terraces that allow non-guests. What are your favorite restaurants in Athens with Acropolis views?

Getting Seafood in Athens?

I’ll be spending some time in Athens soon and would love recommendations for great seafood. I’ve visited Greece many times (I’m Greek myself), but I usually eat seafood on the islands rather than in the city. This time, though, I’ll be with friends who are only in Athens for a short visit, and I’d like them to enjoy a proper seafood meal without having to travel too far.

Are there neighborhoods or specific tavernas in Athens that really stand out for fresh fish or traditional seafood dishes? Do you think it’s better to head to Piraeus or Rafina, or are there hidden gems right in the city? I’d also love suggestions for places where locals go, not just tourist spots, and where the atmosphere is warm and authentic.

Best Places in Athens to Photograph Ancient Sites?

I’ve been to Athens a handful of times now, but oddly enough, I’ve never really brought a proper camera. Just the occasional phone snap. Next time, I want to change that — I’m going all in with my gear and planning my trip around photography, especially ancient sites.

Obviously, the Acropolis is top of the list, but I’m wondering: what are the best vantage points to capture it — especially for sunset or night shots?

Are there quieter ruins that offer amazing shots without the crowds? I’m also looking for angles that give context, like city + ruins together.

Which Temples Around Athens Are Worth Visiting Beyond the Parthenon?

I’ve been to the Parthenon before and absolutely loved it, but next time I’m in Athens, I’d like to go beyond the obvious. I know the city and surrounding region are full of ancient temples that don’t get as much attention, and I’d love to explore some of them.

Are there particular temples in or near Athens that stand out for their beauty, history, or atmosphere? I’ve heard the Temple of Hephaestus is remarkably well-preserved, but what about others—maybe a bit outside the city, like Sounion or Eleusis? Are any of them easy to reach by public transport or day trip?

I’m especially interested in sites that still feel powerful or peaceful to visit, without the huge crowds. Would love your recommendations for must-see temples, hidden gems, or personal favorites among Greece’s ancient sanctuaries.

Nighttime view of the Parthenon?

I’ll be in Athens soon and I’m especially excited to see the Parthenon lit up at night — I’ve heard it’s magical when it’s glowing above the city.

I’d love your tips on the best places to view it after dark. I’m open to rooftop bars, scenic streets, or quiet local spots where you can just sit and take it in. I’ve seen some photos from Lycabettus Hill and Filopappou, but I’m wondering what else people recommend — maybe somewhere less crowded?

Bonus if there’s a view with dinner or drinks involved, but I’m just as happy with a peaceful nighttime stroll and a clear view. I have been to Athens plenty of times - I just never really thought about where to go at night to have a great view.
