I love the restaurants in Athens - they're just so amazing. The chefs in the city do a great job giving a variety of foods from Greek cuisine, from the old to the new. I found this link with a nice list of nine restaurants that I plan to try. What do you guys thing? Have you been to any of these?

I have been to all the Michelin rated restaurants in Athens. My recommendations are as follows ( this is purely on the culinary experience, not the view):
1) Spondi
2) Botrini’s

Not Michelin rated, but worth a visit:

1) Aleria (prix fix)
2) Kouvelos (taverna)
3) Il Trovatore (Italian, Palio Faliro)
4) Aperando Galazio (seafood on the beach, Vari)
5) Margaro (taverna, Piraeus)

This is a great list! I have always wanted to dine at a Michelin rated restaurant in Greece, but the other places look great, too.

I haven't been to any of them personally and haven't heard of any of them except for Strofi. I have heard great things about that one! This list looks fantastic though. Sandyrigo, the list you posted also looks great, thank you for sharing!

I'm so glad you love the restaurants in Athens! I think the chefs here do a great job regarding the variety and quality of the food. I'm excited to hear that you're planning on trying out some of the restaurants on this list - I'm sure you'll love them! I haven't been to any of these restaurants, but I have heard great things about them from friends. The best one they recommended is https://www.riwa-restaurant.de/de/ with a great menu and prices. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Fun Side Trips While Staying in Athens

I've been to Athens. I have done side trips from Athens. Still, I love Rick Steve's work and I found this interesting! He visited some of the places I've seen, but frankly, he made me want to see them again. This was a fun watch!

One of the places I haven't been that he mentioned is Hydra. Such a cool-looking place.

Greek Mythology Sites in Athens?

I am visiting Athens and want a feel for where to go that pertains to Greek mythology.Of course, the Acropolis is on my list, but I wish to explore other places related to gods, goddesses, heroes, and their legendary tales as well.

For those of you who have ventured on similar quests or possess knowledge about Greek mythology's physical footprints in Athens, could you recommend:
  1. Must-visit sites that are deeply connected to Greek mythology.
  2. Any lesser-known locations that offer a unique insight into the myths.
  3. Tips for making the most out of these visits (best time to go, how to avoid crowds, etc.).
  4. Any resources (books, guides, websites) that could help deepen my understanding of the myths associated with these sites.
I’m extremely excited about this trip and looking forward to your recommendations and insights! Thanks!

Ancient Eleusis Archaeological Site

I have been to Athens several times, and I didn't know this place existed. Ithas caught my interest due to its rich mythology and pivotal role in ancient Greek religious life.

I understand that Eleusis was a significant center for religious practices, most notably the Eleusinian Mysteries—secret ceremonies held in honor of Demeter and Persephone. However, my knowledge barely scratches the surface, and I’m eager to learn more before my visit.

Has anyone visited it? I don't know much about it and I am trying to figure out if it is worth it. I love Ancient Greek history and mythology and this has the potential to be interesting to me on a lot of different levels.

Should you come to Athens in the winter?

I have never been to Greece in winter and I was considering it. I found this video - it was very informative! Thought I'd share:

Best Shopping in Athens

My wife and I are going to Greece in a few days. We both like to shop (her more than me) but we've never actually had enough time in Athens to explore the shopping.

Where should we go?

Someone told us Monastiraki is a good choice, but are there other places? We'll have a few days to poke around.
